SAG 2017 Nominations Announced; ‘La La Land’ Shockingly Snubbed For Best Ensemble

Leave it to SAG to throw out this season’s most stunning nomination, an out of left field for Emily Blunt as Best Actress for her performance in The Girl on the Train. Not even in the radar for a possibility as a nominee, the actress joins expected nominees Emma Stone (La La Land), Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins), Natalie Portman (Jackie) and Amy Adams (Arrival) as the five nominee for Best Actress. Blunt’s inclusion has left more than a few writers scratching their heads.

Known to be a solid harbinger for the Oscars, the SAG Awards are known to throw out a shocker or two in their nominations, but this is a jaw dropper. Blunt was not even being considered by the major predictors.

And in another shocker, La La Land was snubbed for Best Ensemble!

Best Actor nominees include Ryan Gosling for La La Land, Casey Affleck for Manchester by the Sea, Viggo Mortensen in Captain Fantastic, Andrew Garfield in Hacksaw Ridge, and Denzel Washington in Fences. Snubbed, again was Tom Hanks whose chances for an Oscar nod now look bleak.

Supporting Actor nominees are Jeff Bridges for Hell or High Water, Marashala Ali in Moonlight, Hugh Grant in Florence Foster Jenkins, Lukas Hedges in Manchester By the Sea, and Dev Patel in Lion.

Supporting Actress nominees are Michelle Williams in Manchester By the Sea, Octavia Spencer in Hidden Figures, Naomi Harris in Moonlight, Viola Davis in Fences, and Nicole Kidman in Lion.

The Ensemble nominees are Captain Fantastic (a surprise!!), Manchester By the Sea, Moonlight, Fences, and another surprise, Hidden Figures. The La La Land snub here is huge, and makes it clear as much as that film is loved, and deservedly so, there are other movies in the race that need attention.

So yes we can get serious with Oscar predictions now, but as Blunt’s nomination proves, we know nothing.
