A.I.C.O. Incarnation Season 2: Premiere Date, Plot, Characters, Recap

‘A.I.C.O Incarnation’ is another old school thriller that has become a part of Netflix’s growing catalog of sci-fi anime. With a total of 12 episodes, the anime is packed with a whole lot of action, unexpected twists, a great cast and a surprisingly exhilarating soundtrack. What really makes this show stand out from all the others out there is how it manages to be simple with its story and yet, comprehensive enough to make it an enjoyable experience for a viewer.

The show in itself is quite self-aware and is always clear about the message that it is trying to send out. It also makes sure that a viewer is able to differentiate between all the characters and the character you should be rooting for. Despite being a pretty short ONA, we get plenty of information on the origins of the main characters and even by the end of the season, there aren’t too many unanswered questions.

The most valuable moments of this anime are the ones where you see a parallel duality between the motives of Aiko’s group and the scientists. While the scientists have this lust for knowledge, Aiko’s group is determined to have a better future for themselves and the world around them. This straightforward approach to the story allows you to easily engage with the anime. Also, in a sci-fi world that may seem a bit too farfetched at times, these moments tend to add a sense of realism to all of it.

As expected from Studio Bones, the action scenes look good but the overall old school style of animation is not exactly for everyone. Even the CGI looks decent from a distance and does not hurt the appeal of the action scenes it is used in. The opening theme is just phenomenal and even the soundtracks during the most thrilling scenes of the show will keep you at the edge of your seat. ‘A.I.C.O Incarnation’ has played it safe by keeping its sci-fi story very crisp and simplistic. Watching it can be a pretty good experience for you if you dive into it without expecting too much.

A.I.C.O. Incarnation Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?

‘A.I.C.O Incarnation’ season 1 premiered on March 9, 2018 as an ONA on Netflix. It follows a completely original story which means that it has not been adapted from a manga or a light novel. So now that the creators of the show do not have to rely on any source material, coming up with a new season may not really be a big deal for them. Also, since the anime is a Netflix Original, it seems very less likely that it would come to an end only after one season. The reason behind this is that Netflix has invested quite a lot in their tie-ups with renowned Anime Studios. So most anime originals will, sooner or later, get a new season.

Coming from Studio Bones that is known for producing some incredible anime series like ‘Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood‘ and ‘My Hero Academia‘, it’ll come as no surprise if the show gets a renewal very soon because unlike many other studios out there, Bones produces more than one seasons of most of its anime. As of now, it seems like the anime has a good chance of getting a new season. There are no confirmations regarding this but we can expect ‘A.I.C.O Incarnation’ season 2 release date to be sometime in 2020. Till then, you should definitely check out the shows on our list of other similar sci-fi anime.

Yuuya Kanazaki is the main male protagonist of the series who first appears as a transfer student at Aiko Tachibana’s school. Compared to all the other kids at the school, he seems to be very aloof and mature. After meeting Aiko, he tells her the truth about the impact that the “Burst” has had on her and takes her to the Primary point of the incident to unravel more secrets that it holds. Yuuya seems to be very mysterious at the beginning of the anime and nothing much is revealed about his past or where he comes from. The only thing that is known about him is that he really wants to bring an end to the “Burst”.

Much later, it is revealed that he is actually a scientist named Toshihide Yura who was one of the key researchers at the Kiryu Biotech Research Facility. Right at the beginning of the “Burst”,  he had died but his brain was implanted on an artificial organism known as the “Duplicate One”. This was done by Susumu Kurose who was another prominent figure at the research facility.

Aiko Tachibana

Aiko Tachibana is the main female protagonist of the show who feels extremely traumatized after she loses her family in the “Burst”. She later starts attending a new high school in a wheelchair while her rehabilitation from the incident continues. Later, when a transfer student named Yuuya meets her and tells her the secrets about her body and her family, she finds it really hard to absorb all this new information. But once she feels convinced that she is not being lied to, she decides to join Yuuya on his quest to find the truth behind everything that happened during the incident.

Though she is weighed down by her tough past, she is still quite energetic and cheerful all the time. She is a cute looking girl with big deep brown eyes and short black hair. She is usually seen in her school uniform and often has a tiny little smile on her face.

Susumu Kurose

Susumu was one of the researchers at the Kiryu Biotech Research facility who is known for his participation in the development of the “Cell Assembler” technology. He later leads a team of scientists who aim to stop the “Matter” from spreading out of the Kurobe Gorge area. He usually stays calm and has an easy-going personality even during times when his colleagues get really stressed out. He is also willing to take bold risks to achieve what he truly believes in.
