How did Al Haymon earn his money and wealth?

Al Haymon, real name Alan Haymon, was born on 21 April, 1955. In his childhood days, he was raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He studied economics at the Harvard University where he also completed his MBA in business administration. Al Haymon is not only an American boxing adviser/manager but is also a promoter to several top boxers in the US. From the year 1969 to 1978, Al Haymon’s Brother Bobby Haymon, fought professionally as a boxer and achieved a record of 21-8. However, Sugar Ray Leonard stopped Bobby Haymon in his last fight, who was at a score of 9-0 at the time.

He began promoting musicians initially when he began his career while in school and worked with such notable stars like the Levert Family, The O’Jays, New Edition, M. C. Hammer, Mary J. Blige and Whitney Houston. He later branched into other entertainment sections. Later as time passed, Al Haymon eventually created 14 businesses, which mostly dealt with aspects of live promotion. Haymon along with his partner, Phil Casey, are known to among the first urban concert promoters to plan a package to several acts into a single tour, where a few of the tours lasted for 300 days.

The two partners created the “Budweiser Superfest”, which was a concert series that ran from the year 1979 to 1999 and was again revived in the year 2010. In the year 1992, Haymon told USA Today in an interview that they have put up somewhere around 500 shows and have earned about $60 million. Haymon has also co-promoted the “Eddie Murphy Raw” tour, which was the highest-grossing comedy tour and film ever at the time.

Haymon came in the boxing world in the year 2000 and worked with the Vernon Forrest. Though Haymon is licensed in Nevada, he performs in several of the same functions as a promoter. He received the Al Buck Award in the category Manager of the year from the Boxing Writers Association of America in the years 2005, 2012 and 2013. His biggest client is Floyd Mayweather Jr. who he manages.

Haymon’s manner of dealing is a mystery as he works solely behind the scenes. He does not do media interviews and also refuses to have face to face meetings. However, he has secured big matches for his clients on major US TV networks which include HBO and Showtime.
