Steve Carell is a comic genius and is perhaps unrivalled by anyone in the world except for the likes of Ricky Gervais. And when Steve comes together with his wife, Nancy, to produce something, it gets even better. ‘Angie Tribeca’ is a brainchild the Carells (if you will), and is a comedy-drama that recently saw its fourth season aired.  The first season premiered on January 17, 2016 on TBS and earned extremely positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. The show has enjoyed a robust fan following ever since. The success of ‘Angie Tribeca’ probably lies in its hilarious parodies about police procedures in America, which also forms the basic premise of the plot.

Angie Tribeca Cast: Who is in it?

The biggest addition to the cast of the fourth season was Bob Cannavale, the seasoned American actor famous for his stints on popular shows like ‘Will and Grace’ and ‘Boardwalk Empire’. The announcement of his addition was made over a year ago with announcement of Season 4.

In a hilarious announcement of Cannavale’s role in Season 4, the cable network wrote: “Bobby Cannavale is joining the cop spoof in a shameless attempt to grab some much-deserved awards attention.” Cannavale joined the others in the show in Season 4, playing the role of Angela ‘AJ’ Giles Jr, the son of Angie and Jay.

Meanwhile, the main cast of the show remained the same, with Rashida Jones playing the role of the titular character, Angela ‘Angie’ Tribeca, and Hayes MacArthur playing the role of Jason ‘Jay’ Geils. Jere Burns plays the role of Angie’s boss, Captain Chet Atkins, his twin brother Eric Atkins, and two other cousins of the Atkins. Andree Vermeulen plays the role of Monica Scholls, while Deon Cole plays the role of Daniel ‘DJ’ Tanner.

Angie Tribeca Plot: What is it about?

The show is a parody of police procedures and conventional stereotypes associated with the uniform in the US. Angie Tribeca is a seasoned veteran in the LAPD’s elite RHCU (Really Heinous Crimes Unit) who is assigned a new partner. The show follows Angie as she pairs up with Jason Geils, an inexperienced and kind officer, and the duo often get in trouble with their boss, Chet Atkins. Each episode brings a new case for the two to solve, and they do so with the help of their colleagues. The satire’s relentless push to parody police procedures ensures that every minute is filled with a laugh. The show is also replete with hilarious one liners, visual comedy, and irony.

The sharp wit which has become characteristic of ‘Angie Tribeca’ was an instant hit among audiences and television critics alike, when the first season of the show got released in 2016. Impressed critics gave Season 1 of the show a noteworthy score of 89%. Season 2 of the show received even more praise, and clocked a score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. On IMDb, the show enjoys an overall rating of 7/10.

Angie Tribeca Season 5 Release: When does it premiere?

‘Angie Tribeca’ season 4 premiered on December 29, 2018. Like all three seasons before it, Season 4, too, had 10 episodes. As far as the next season goes, we have bad news for the fans. On May 9, 2019, the series was cancelled after four seasons.

Now, the question is why did TBS cancelled ‘Angie Tribeca’? According to ratings analysis websites, Season 4 of ‘Angie Tribeca’ averaged a rating of 0.8 in the demographic category of 18-49 years, and had an average viewership of 266,000. In comparison to Season 3, Season 4’s rating saw a decline of 70% while viewership declined by 53%.

Given this fact, TBS didn’t see any value in keep going. That said, there is always a chance that the show gets revived several years down the line. If that happens, we will update you about ‘Angie Tribeca’ season 5 release date.
