‘Serenity’ is an upcoming 2019 American neo-noir thriller film directed and written by Steven Knight. The film stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Diane Lane, Jason Clarke, Djimon Hounsou, and Jeremy Strong, and follows a fishing boat captain who is approached by his ex-wife to murder her new husband. The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on January 25, 2019, by Aviron Pictures.


2. The Hustle (2019)

‘The Hustle’ is an upcoming American comedy film directed by Chris Addison and written by Jac Schaeffer. It is a female-centered remake of 1988 film Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. The film stars Rebel Wilson, Anne Hathaway, and Alex Sharp. The film is scheduled to be released on May 10, 2019 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Annapurna Pictures.


3. The Last Thing He Wanted (TBA)

‘The Last Thing He Wanted’ is an upcoming British-American political thriller film directed by Dee Rees based on the book of the same name by Joan Didion, from a screenplay by Rees and Marco Villalobos. It stars Anne Hathaway, Willem Dafoe, Ben Affleck, Toby Jones, Rosie Perez, Edi Gathegi, Mel Rodriguez, and Brian Rechkemmer. The film follows a journalist who stops her coverage of the 1984 U.S. Presidential election to care for her dying father.

In September 2017, it was announced Dee Rees would direct, based upon the novel of the same name by Joan Didion, from a screenplay by Marco Villalobos. Cassian Elwes will produce the film, under her Elevated Films banner, alongside The Fyzz Factory. In February 2018, Anne Hathaway joined the cast of the film. In June 2018, Willem Dafoe joined the cast of the film. In July 2018, Ben Affleck, Toby Jones, Rosie Perez, Edi Gathegi, Mel Rodriguez and Carlos Leal joined the cast of the film. In May 2018, Netflix acquired distribution rights to the film. Principal photography began on June 14, 2018, in Puerto Rico.

4. The Modern Ocean (2019)

According to  The Hollywood Reporter, filmmaker Shane Carruth has assembled an impressive cast for his latest movie project, The Modern Ocean. Anne Hathaway, Keanu Reeves, Daniel Radcliffe, Chloe Grace Moretz, Tom Holland, Asa Butterfield, Jeff Goldblum and  Abraham Attah will star in the ensemble adventure drama, based on Carruth’s script. The storyline revolves around vengeance and the fierce competition for valuable shipping routes and priceless materials that converge in a spectacular battle on the rolling decks of behemoth cargo ships.

5. O2 (TBA)

Anne Hathaway has come on board to star in the independent science-fiction thriller ‘O2’. IM Global is financing the movie. Producers are Suzan Bymel and Hathaway with Echo Lake’s Adam Riback and James Engle, as well as IM Global’s Stuart Ford and Greg Shapiro. CAA is representing domestic rights of the movie. Producers are seeking a director for ‘O2’. Christie LeBlanc has written the script, in which a woman wakes up inside a cryogenic chamber with no memory of how she got there while the air in the chamber begins slowly running out. The script was named to the 2016 Black List in December.

6. The Lifeboat (TBA)

According to Deadline, Joe Wright is in talks to direct The Lifeboat with Anne Hathaway attached to star in the adaptation of Charlotte Rogan’s book. Hathaway is also producing the film. Film 360 and Focus Features acquired the rights and are developing Rogan’s book. The plot of the film is about a young newlywed-turned-widow standing trial in 1914 for murder. The story recounts how with the help of her new husband she survived the sinking of the Empress, a transatlantic ocean liner. She finds herself on a lifeboat, only to discover there are too many people on board, leading to a moral crisis as to who stays and who has to go. William Broyles Jr. (Castaway) is writing the script and exec producing.

Rumored Titles

1. Grounded (TBA)

According to Variety, Anne Hathaway is adapting a movie version of George Brant’s celebrated play ‘Grounded’. Hathaway liked the material so much that she locked up the film rights before signing her contract for the movie. ‘Grounded’ tells the story of a conflicted American Air Force pilot tasked with operating an unmanned drone.


2. Live Fast Die Hot (TBA)

According to Variety, Anne Hathaway is starring in and producing “Live Fast Die Hot,” based on Jenny Mollen’s recently published book of irreverent essays. Warner Bros has acquired movie rights to “Live Fast Die Hot,” a New York Times bestseller which was published by Doubleday in June. Gail Berman will serve as the producer. The project will be overseen by Warner Bros executive Chantal Nong .


3. The Shower (TBA)

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Warner Bros is in final negotiations for the Anne Hathaway-starring sci-fi action-comedy The Shower. The actress is attached to star in and produce the film with Jac Schaeffer writing the screenplay The story is set at a baby shower that gets upstaged by a massive meteor shower, bringing along blood-sucking aliens from outer space that crash the party. Hathaway’s husband Adam Shulman is producing along with Andrew Lauren and D.J. Gugenheim.

  • I saw Anne Hathaway’s comment about White Privilege. I am a white male my privilege has been to serve in the Navy go to college on the G.I. bill and find a job and keep it for 30 years. I resent her saying a racist killer exhibited White Privilege. I will never see her in another movie. I am exercising my White Privilege.
