Childish Gambino, a.k.a Donald Glover, a.k.a mcDJ, became a sensation through his brilliant song, This is America.  However, he had already received widespread recognition through his work in ‘Atlanta’, a show that actively discusses the race relations and other issues that have taken centre-stage in his hard-hitting song. The series stars Glover as Earnest Marks, an ordinary black man in Atlanta, Georgia, the breeding ground for upcoming rappers, who looks to reconnect with his family and friends and repair the damage his actions have caused.

The show upon its premiere in 2016 was been well received by the audience and the critics alike. It has won two Golden Gloves and two Primetime Emmy Awards, with Glover winning for his performance in the series, becoming the first African-American to win an award in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. The series is created by Glover, who also executive produces it alongside Dianne McGunigle, Paul Simms and Stephen Glover.

Atlanta Cast: Who is in it?

The cast of ‘Atlanta’ includes the then-unknown actors that shot to stardom after the acclaim that the show received. The star of the series is Glover. He plays the role of Earnest Marks, a Princeton dropout who becomes the manager of his rapper cousin. Brian Tyree Henry plays the role of Alfred Miles, Earn’s cousin. He is also known for his work in ‘Widows’ and ‘This is Us‘. Lakeith Standfield plays the role of Darius Epps, a gun enthusiast and Alfred’s right-hand man. His other well-known roles include movies like ‘Short Term 12’, ‘Sorry to Bother You‘, Oscar-nominated ‘Get Out‘, ‘Selma’ and ‘Straight Outta Compton’.

Zazie Beetz plays the role of Vannessa Keefer, who is in an on and off relationship with Earn. She has received an Emmy nomination for her work in the show. She is also known for portraying the role of Domino, a woman whose superpower is being lucky, in ‘Deadpool 2‘. Her other acting credits include Jordan Peele‘s ‘The Twilight Zone‘, Netflix’s ‘Easy‘ and ‘Geostorm’. She is also set to appear in ‘Joker‘ and the political thriller, ‘Against All Enemies’.

The ‘Robbin Season’, as season two was called, featured the main cast led by Donald Glover and had some great new additions who spiced up the story. Kevin Waterman’s addition as the Sinister man surely came as a shock to many and was a pleasant surprise for the viewers. Apart from him, there weren’t many notable additions to season two, while the core of season one was carried forward in the Robbin’ season. If season three is to take place, the main cast of Glover, Stanfield, Beetz, and Henry will definitely reprise their roles. Other important recurring characters like Raleigh, Swiff, and Dave will come back in supporting roles.

Atlanta Plot: What is it about?

‘Atlanta’ began as a keenly observed exploration of the music culture in Atlanta. The show moved forward with two cousins and the flailing relationships the two shared with their families. While music has been the centrepiece around which the show has revolved, its maturity and emotional insurance have come through Earnest’s struggle for redemption and reconnection with his estranged wife and parents. His connection with his daughter Lottie and his insistence on giving her the best of everything strives him to push harder every day.

Season 3 will probably pick up from the finale of season two, which saw Earnest and Alfred finally regain a level of trust between them. Earn’s quick thinking and affection for his family prompted him to plant the gun that was kept in his bag in Clark’s to save his team. Season three is expected to continue in the same vein.

After the success of the first season, there was an immense pressure on the series to live up to the expectations and make the story better. It proved worthy of all the anticipation by being better and more mature in its content. We expect something similar in the next season. The showrunners are taking their time to come up with the storyline and we might have to wait a while for the follow-up, but we can guarantee that the wait will be worth it. When we receive further news on the plot, we will update this section.

Atlanta Season 3 Release Date: When does it premiere?

‘Atlanta’ season 2 premiered on March 1, 2018. It took some time, but the series received a renewal for the third season and was initially set to return in 2019. However, the production has met some delays due to Glover’s injury and his own personal issues. The work continues, though, and the writers are chalking out the scenarios that they want to explore in the next season of this acclaimed series.

Atlanta is phenomenal — achieving and exceeding what few television series have done,” said co-president of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions Nick Grad today of the series co-starring Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz and Lakeith Lee Stanfield. “With Atlanta Robbin’ Season, Donald and his collaborators elevated the series to even greater heights, building on the enormous success of their award-winning first season,” Grad added, along with co-president Eric Schrier on Thursday. “We’re grateful to the producers and our extraordinary cast and crew for achieving this level of excellence, and we share the excitement with our audience about the third season knowing they will continue to take us to unexpected and thrilling places.”

The series has also seen a two-year gap between the first and the second season. Considering all this, we can expect ‘Atlanta’ season 3 to premiere some time in Q1 2020. Meanwhile, on August 6, 2019, FX announced that the show has even been renewed for a fourth season, which is great news for the fans.
