Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 4: Premiere Date, Plot, Characters

One thing about ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ that is extremely appealing to most viewers is how despite being of American origin, it somehow manages to visually encapsulate the artistic forte of Japanese anime. It presents a very creative and vast universe where everything seems to be surprisingly believable. With its references to Buddhist, Inuit, Western, Japanese and Korean cultures, it also involves several spiritual philosophies that will stay with you long after the show is over.

Apart from the majestic journey that ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ takes you on with its vibrant characters, the animated series also has a solid comical backbone that balances out its other serious themes. To put it simply, ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ is one of a kind and its stellar production value, mythological themes and intriguing characters remain unmatched even to this day. Anyone who has not seen it yet is seriously missing out.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 4 Release Date: When will it premiere?

‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ season 1 premiered on 21 February 2005 and with a total of 61 episodes and 3 seasons, it ended on 19 July 2008. Now just by considering that the series has been on a hiatus for one whole decade, we can dismiss the possibilities of its renewal. But unlike most other shows of its kind, ‘Avatar’ was phenomenal and was also being compared with some of the best Cartoon Network series such as ‘Samurai Jack‘ and ‘Teen Titans‘. Because of its immense popularity, M Night Shyamalan even attempted to make a live-action version of it which wasn’t accepted too well because of the obvious whitewashing of its characters.

That being said, Aaron Ehasz, the former head writer of the series, recently shocked all fans of the series by claiming that, for a while, even a fourth season of the series was being considered. But just because co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko were heavily focusing on Shyamalan’s version of the series, a fourth season was dropped. So at the end of the day, ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ season 4 seems to be cancelled and as much as we would love to see a lot more of it, the ending of its third season was pretty satisfying.

Fans of the show shouldn’t feel disappointed, because  a new live-action remake of the series by its original creators to be produced for Netflix was announced in September 2018. So, we all have that to look forward to.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Plot:

The human civilization has been divided into four different nations that are named after the four different elements of the world. The Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads comprise certain special individuals, known as “benders”—water benders, earth benders, fire benders, and air benders— who can supernaturally control their respective component utilizing a kind of martial art. “The Avatar” is one such unique individual who possesses the ability to bend all four elements but his existence is a mere urban legend.

The Avatar is a global authority whose obligation is to keep up congruity among the four countries and go about as a middle person among people and spirits. When the Avatar himself kicks the bucket, his soul is resurrected into another new Avatar. The new re-born version of Avatar will follow the Avatar cycle and will return in a whole new nation. The new Avatar, starting at the age of 16, must learn to control all the four elements by gaining proficiency in each of them one by one. While learning, the Avatar must start off with the element of his origin country and then move on ahead by considering the order of the Avatar cycle.

In addition to this, Avatars also have the capacity to enter a condition known as the Avatar State, which allows them to gain the learning and capacities of every single past Avatar. In spite of being extremely overpowered in the divine Avatar State, if an Avatar is killed in the superior state, he will never be reborn again and the entire cycle will come to an end.

Katara and Sokka run into the new Avatar, an Airbender named Aang, one day and now, in their war-torn world, they must embark on a journey to help Aang master all four elements and eventually save the world.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Characters:

Aang

Aang, who was born as an Air Nomad, is the Avatar during the Hundred Year War and is the direct reincarnation of Avatar Roku. After him, the next Avatar in line is Avatar Korra. Like all the other previous Avatars, he is the only one in his generation who possesses the ability to bend all four elements. Along with that, he also has the unique ability of energy bending which has been acquired by very few Avatars in the past. He later becomes the first Avatar to actually harness the true potential of that ability.

For a long time, Aang was frozen in an iceberg and during his state of hibernation, the fire nation waged a war against the air nomads and completely wiped out their population. Being the last Airbender, it all comes down to him to master control over all four elements and eventually defeat Fire Lord Ozai. Despite all the responsibilities that are laid on his shoulders, Aang still manages to retain a goofy childlike personality and also has fun during his journeys. But he also takes his role very seriously and remains determined to seek justice for his people.

Katara

Katara is a water bending master who lived a peaceful life with her family in the South Pole. For a long time, she is left alone after the murder of her mother but later, she and her brother discover Aang in an iceberg and travel with him across the globe as her masters all four elements. She even uses her own mastery of the water element to help Aang harness his own water bending abilities. Later in the series, Aang and Katara fall in love and even get married.
