One of the reasons Netflix has become the most popular streaming service all over the world is because it has heavily indulged itself in the local cinema and television of whatever market it wanted to enter. In India, it debuted with crime drama, ‘Sacred Games’, which now enjoys a cult following. Following its success, Netflix broadened its horizon with horror drama, ‘Typewriter’; dystopian series, ‘Leila’; horror thriller, ‘Ghoul’; and a crime drama based on true events, ‘Delhi Crime’. After dabbling in all sorts of genre, it has turned its attention towards the world of espionage.

Collaborating, once again, with some of the biggest name in Bollywood, it presents the adaptation of Bilal Siddiqui’s novel of the same name, ‘Bard of Blood’. It follows an ex-RAW agent, an analyst and a sleeper agent on a mission to rescue four secret agents from Baluchistan. The series is directed by Ribhu Dasgupta, who has previously directed movies like ‘Michael’, ‘Te3n’ and the TV show, ‘Yudh’. It is produced by Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan, under their banner of Red Chillies Entertainment, along with Gaurav Verma.

The first season of the show wasn’t received well. Now the question remains: when will ‘Bard of Blood’ season 2 release? Here’s everything we know.

Bard of Blood Cast: Who’s in it?

The cast of ‘Bard of Blood’ is led by Emraan Hashmi. He plays the role of Kabir Anand, an ex-RAW agent who is struggling with the trauma of the mission that became his downfall. He is known for his roles in movies like erotic thriller ‘Murder’, romance drama ‘Gangster’, ‘Jannat’, political thriller ‘Shanghai’ and biopic ‘Azhar’.

Vineet Kumar Singh plays the role of Veer Singh, a sleeper agent who assists Kabir. Kumar is known for his roles in movies like ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, ‘Ugly’, ‘Mukkabaaz’ and ‘Bombay Talkies’.

The third part of the team is Isha Khanna. She is played by Sobhita Dhulipala. After participating in and winning various beauty pageants, she turned towards acting with movies like ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’. She also stars in Amazon Prime’s romance drama, ‘Made in Heaven’. Jaideep Ahlawat (‘Khatta Meetha’, ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, ‘Commando’) plays one of the main antagonists of the story.

Other actors to appear in important roles are Rajit Kapur (‘Byomkesh Bakshi’, ‘The Making of the Mahatma’), Kirti Kulhari (‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’, ‘Mission Mangal’, ‘Pink’), Amyra Dastur (‘Kung Fu Yoga’, ‘Mr. X’), Shashank Arora (‘Titli’, ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’) and Suhail Nayyar (‘Udta Punjab’, ‘Hotel Mumbai’). Additional cast includes Amit Bimrot, Shamaun Ahmed, Shishir Sharma, Danish Husain, Vikram Arora, Prakash Joshi and Shruti Marathe.

All the main cast members are expected to return for season 2, if it gets commissioned.

Bard of Blood Plot: What’s it About?

The conflict between India and Pakistan has been a perpetual bane of the existence of both nations since their independence from the British Raj. A lot of blood was shed in their separation and chaos on the borders has, unfortunately, become a normal thing. The terrorist organizations have benefitted the most from it. They have set their camps where they train people how to terrorise both countries.

The Indian intelligence agency, RAW, has an espionage network that keeps an eye on these terrorist groups, in the effort to stay one step ahead of them and avert any tragedies that the country might have to face. The agents operating in these highly dangerous situations have to be extremely cautious about their actions and identity. ‘Bard of Blood’ begins with the misfortune of four agents who are caught by a terrorist group in Baluchistan. The agency has to come up with a plan to bring them back, but that requires putting more agents in danger. They need someone who is not only exceptionally skilled but also familiar with the terrain of Baluchistan. After much reflection, they zero in on Adonis.

Kabir Anand is a school teacher, but that’s a very small arc in his story. He was a RAW agent and a great one at that but met his downfall after things went awry in a mission. He was decommissioned after it but is now called back to rescue the agents. He is assisted by Isha Khanna, an analyst who might not be so impressed with Kabir’s reckless actions.

Another member of the team is Veer Singh, a sleeper agent who has spent too much time on the field and wishes to go back home after this mission. Time is of the essence here as a second’s delay could cost the agents their lives. However, at the same time, the trio has to wade through murky waters and trust no one in the enemy territory. As the skeletons in their closet rattle vigorously, the agents have to remember that the mission is the priority.

If there is a season 2, we can expect to see more of how RAW agents navigate through the rough waters of spying.

Bard of Blood Season 2 Release Date: When Will It Premiere?

‘Bard of Blood’ Season 1 premiered on September 27, 2019. Netflix originals enjoy a massive fan following in India, especially due to the lack of similar material on Indian television dominated by daily soaps. Espionage is one of the most popular categories and is rarely brought on the silver screen.

The only recent shows to have pulled it off are Anil Kapoor’s ‘24’ and the Indian adaptation of popular Israeli series, ‘Prisoners of War’. Despite having a stellar cast, strong plot and offering something different to the audience, they struggled to receive the attention of the viewers. ‘Bard of Blood’ could have fallen in a similar situation had it been under the aegis of some other network. With Netflix attached to its name, it already benefits from the binge-watching trend that the streaming service has popularised. Moreover, it also has more exposure and flexibility of timing as compared to its counterparts.

It will take some time to see how the audience responds to the show, which means Netflix will also wait a while before giving any official word on the future of the series. Recently, the streaming service has become more brutal with cancellations. Some popular series have been cut short due to the lack of audience. In the scenario the show is renewed, you can expect ‘Bard of Blood’ Season 2 to release sometime in September, 2020.
