Barry Sanders is born on July 16, 1968. He is a retired American football running back player. At the time of retirement, he was playing for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). Sanders is an extraordinary football player whose exceptional football skills helped him earn many football awards and honors. A Pro Bowl invitee in each of his 10 NFL seasons and he won twice NFL Offensive Player of the Year, Sanders led the league in rushing yards 4 times and proven himself as one of the most indefinable runners in pro football with his speed and alertness. In 2007, he was ranked as the most elusive runner in NFL history, by NFL Network’s NFL Top 10 series and also occupied the top spot in its list of ultimate players never to play in a Super Bowl.

Sanders played football in college for the football team of Oklahoma State Cowboys, whereas in 1988 as a junior he collected what is considered one of the best individual seasons in the history of college football, rushing for 2,950 yards and 43 touchdowns in 12 games. He received the Heisman Trophy as the most exceptional college player in the state and was universally recognized as an All-American. In 2003, He was welcomed into the College Football Hall of Fame.

Sanders joined the Lions football team in 1989 and had an instant impact, winning the Rookie of the Year award of the NFL. Playing for 10 seasons for Lions, he averaged over 1,600 rushing yards per season and just under 100 rushing yards per game. In 1997, he became the only third player to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season and was named the Most Valuable Player of NFL. Still, apparently in his prime, Sanders unpredictably retired from football after completing the 1998 season, during retirement, he was 1,457 yards short of breaking the all-time rushing record of NFL. His 20 number jersey was retired by the Lions, and he was welcomed into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004.

After retirement, in October 2011, Sanders introduced and hosted the  Monday Night Football game aired on ESPN between the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears. In April 2013, Sanders reached to the finals in the Madden NFL 25 cover vote of EA Sports by beating Ron Rivera, Marcus Allen, Ray LewisandJoe Montana.

Sanders married Lauren Sanders, a television actor, in 2000. Their marriage lasted for 12 years and Sanders filed for divorce in 2012. Both had four sons.
