Bear Grylls Facts:

His only sibling Lara gave him the nickname “Bear” when he was just a week old.

His claim to fame is that he became the youngest person to reach the top of Mount Everest in 1998 at the age of 23. He made it into the Guinness book of records but his record has since been broken – four times.

He loves martial arts and definitely loved being in India. He is a black belt in Shokobon Karate, which he first started learning in India. He is pretty impressive in protecting himself on this matter.

In 1996, Grylls met a freefall parachuting accident in Zambia. During an SAS Skydive from a great height, his parachute at a height of 16,000 ft above the ground and he broke his vertebrae in three places in this accident.

As soon as we begin to conclude that this guy cannot go more extreme than this, he proves us wrong again and again. Interestingly, he holds the world record for the world’s highest open-air dinner party, which he shared with Lt Cdr Alan Veal RN. It was held in a hot air balloon at a height of 7,600 meters.

He is widely known throughout the world for his exceptional work and showmanship spirit. People refer to him as the human encyclopedia for his vast knowledge in the field of survival.

Some of the injuries he has suffered over the years include crushed shoulders, a  sliced finger, a broken elbow, a smashed knee cartilage, a broken big toe, a chipped shin bone, a dislocated hip as well as various bites from snakes, bats, scorpions and 4319 mosquitoes.

He has written 11 books since, including four teenage fiction books about survival titled Mission Survival.

He has released a Man VS Wild Xbox, PlayStation and Wii game with Discovery Channel.
