How did Big Pun earn his money and wealth?
Christopher Lee Rios, better known by his stage name Big Pun, was born on 10th November 1971 in The Bronx, New York, USA. The American hip-hop artist died on 7th February 2000 due to obesity-related heart failure. He is best known for his debut album entitled “Capital Punishment”, which was ranked #No. 1 on the hip-hop charts. He was an active member of the music industry from 1990 to 2000. Talking about his personal life, Big Pun was married to Eliza Rios, whom he left behind with their three children, after his death.
Big Pun had a very unpleasant childhood, as his father passed away when he was a baby. His mother was a drug-addict, while his stepfather was very abusive. With a disturbed family, Pun met with many problems and was kicked out of high school. He started his career in the 1990s, by writing lyrics, and formed a rap group, comprising of the rappers Lyrical Assassin, Toom and Joker Jamz. But, he couldn’t gain success, until 1995, when he appeared as a guest on the Fat Joe’s second album, “Jealous One’s Envy”, under the name Big Punisher.
The very next year, he renamed his alias to Big Pun and started recording music for his first album. He soon produced the song “I’m Not A Player”, that became a hit, followed by another new song, entitled “Still Not A Player”, which again became a huge hit. This success launched Pun into the rap scene and became a contributor to his net worth. In 1998, Big Pun’s debut album got released, entitled “Capital Punishment”, and was an accomplishment by the rapper, as it reached platinum certification, bagging the 5th place on the Billboards top 2chartsart. This increased his net worth by a huge margin. Later, Pun joined the Terror Squad and in 1999 released their only album, entitled “The Album”, but it went flop.
Suddenly, on 7th February 2000, Pun’s career came to an abrupt stop, as he got a heart attack. However, after his death also two more albums were released. In April 2000, his second album got released, entitled “Yeeeah Baby”, and a compilation album came out in 2001.
On September 15, 2009, a tribute documentary, called “Big Pun: The Legacy”, directed by Vlad Yudin, was released, which was about him, containing interviews with celebrities and the people who were close to him. Due to his contribution in the music industry, Big Pun was listed #No. 25 on the 50 Greatest MCs of All Time list by website About.com. He also ranked No. 11 position on the list of the 22 Greatest MCs, by MTV2.
