ABC’s critically acclaimed and multiple award-winning sitcom ‘Black-ish’ is about an affluent African-American clan who navigates their lives while juggling multiple personal and social issues. The show has been appreciated for its bold portrayal of cultural norms. It also boasts a stellar lead cast who keeps the storyline extremely engaging with their solid performances. Hence, it comes as no surprise that the comedy has spanned six incredible seasons to date. Now, the next obvious question is: will there be a ‘Black-ish’ season 7? Read on and find out for yourself.

Black-ish Season 7 Release Date

‘Black-ish’ season 6 premiered on September 24, 2019, on ABC. After spanning 23 episodes, it ended its run on May 5, 2020.

As far as the next season goes, here’s the thing. ABC has renewed the show for its seventh season. And the news is not a shocker. In terms of the storyline and response, ‘Black-ish’ always held a strong potential for a new outing. Although its viewerships might have fallen a bit after the first season, it is still a staple on ABC. Moreover, the show has spawned two spinoffs, which are a testimony of its success. However, we cannot expect the show to return and join the channel’s regular, annual fall line-up — due to the ongoing health crisis. The filming dates will surely be pushed back. In all probability, ‘Black-ish’ Season 7 will release sometime in 2021.

Black-ish Season 7 Cast: Who Can be in it?

In season 6, Anthony Anderson stars as Andre “Dre” Johnson while Tracee Ellis Ross plays Dr. Rainbow “Bow” Johnson. Dre is the patriarch while Bow is the matriarch of the wealthy Johnson clan. Joining them are Marcus Scribner as Andre “Junior” Johnson Jr., the family’s second child; Miles Brown as Jackson “Jack” Johnson, the clan’s third child; and Marsai Martin as Diane Johnson, Jack’s fraternal twin.

Rounding up the lead cast is Deon Cole as Charlie Telphy (Dre’s colleague and best friend), Jenifer Lewis as Ruby Johnson (Andre’s mother), Jeff Meacham as Josh Oppenhol (Andre’s co-worker), and Peter Mackenzie as Leslie Stevens (Andre’s boss). In its seventh edition, we expect the entire lead cast to make their respective comebacks.

Black-ish Season 7 Plot: What Can it be About?

The story of ‘Black-ish’ is centered around Dre, who struggles with raising his kids, alongside his wife Bow while living in a suburban white neighborhood. He juggles between teaching his children to stick to their black identity and adjusting to modern American values. The show’s main humor is derived from this very premise, which leads to regular squabbles among the Johnsons. ‘Black-ish’ attempts to give a lighthearted yet detailed picture of the African culture — with an aim to highlight the stereotypes faced by black people. Season 7 will adopt the same concept and continue to follow the characters as they navigate life while constantly balancing their personal beliefs with societal norms.
