Black AF Season 2

Kenya Barris’ first outing under Netflix, ‘BlackAF’ managed to tickle the fancy of the audiences because of its multi-layered characters, whipsmart dialogues, self-referential elements, and cultural and racial commentary, much like his hit show ‘Black-ish.’ The family sitcom is an exaggerated take on Kenya Baris’ real life as an acclaimed showrunner. Although the show received mixed reviews from the critics, it has garnered a decent fanbase among the mockumentary lovers, who must be wondering: when will ‘BlackAF’ season 2 release? Well, here’s everything we know.

Black AF Season 2 Release Date

‘Black AF’ season 1 released on April 17, 2020, on Netflix. It consists of eight episodes with a runtime of 30-40 minutes each.

As far as season 2 is concerned, here’s what we know. ‘Black AF’ is the first project in Barris’ multi-year $100 million deal with Netflix. And considering the decent response from the audiences and critics, the network might give the show a nod for another season. Since it’s a sitcom, there is enough potential for Barris to continue exploring the story of his fictional family. If everything works out accordingly, we expect ‘BlackAF’ season 2 to release sometime in 2021, on Netflix.

Black AF Season 2 Cast: Who is in it?

As it’s a sitcom, all the main cast members might reprise their respective roles in season 2.

Kenya Barris will return to play the fictionalized version of himself. ‘Parks and Recreation’ actor Rashida Jones will rejoin Barris as his wife Joya Barris, the matriarch of the Barris family. Iman Benson might reprise her role as Joya and Kenya’s college-going daughter, Drea Barris. Genneya Walton might come back for another round as the eldest Barris child, Chloe Barris.

The other returning cast members include Scarlet Spencer as Izzy Barris, Justin Claiborne as Pops Barris, Ravi Cabot-Conyers as Cam Barris, and Richard Gardenhire Jr. as Brooklyn Barris. Season 1 features cameos from Kenya’s friends Ava DuVernay, Will Packer, Tyler Perry, Issa Rae, Tim Story, and Lena Waithe. Season 2 might see their return and can also feature new cameos.

Black AF Season 2 Plot: What can it be About?

In season 1, Kenya and Joya’s daughter, Drea tries her best to excel at the documentary she is making as part of an application for film school. Throughout the season, the over the top family, bicker over the lamest issues, just like any random family would. Towards the end, Joya and Kenya’s relationship issues take a turn for the worse, as Joya starts feeling claustrophobic as a full-time mother after giving up her career as a lawyer. The family takes a trip to Fiji, where Kenya lashes out at Joya for keeping him in the dark about her book-signing event. He ends up watching an episode from his own show, ‘Black-ish,’ and realizes he is in the wrong for not being supportive of his wife’s new career path. The two patch up, and the family heads back home.

Season 2 might continue to showcase the honest and vulnerable side of the Barris family. We can expect Kenya and Joya to work on their relationship and show more responsibility towards their kids. Kenya might learn a thing or two about dealing with his wayward younger ones, while Joya might strive to build a new career from scratch.
