Case Closed Season 28: Premiere Date, Plot, Characters

‘Detective Conan’ has been around for ages now and though the late 90s are considered to be the golden era of shounen shows, ‘Detective Conan’ is an anime that has created a huge separate fan base of its own. Though it has not exactly gained a lot of popularity in the West, the anime is absolutely viral in Japan and pretty much every anime fan knows about it. Now considering that it was created back in the 90s, you cannot really expect the animation style to be top-notch in any way. But the things that make it absolutely admirable are its storyline and the fascinating characters.

All the mysterious cases that involve murders, suicides, robberies, and even abductions have been perfectly laid out and it’s usually hard to even find one plot hole in all of its mini storylines. The way the main protagonist uses his intelligence to solve the toughest cases thrown at him is just beyond impressive and this also makes it clear that the creators have put in a lot of thought in every minor detail of the story.

Overall, ‘Detective Conan’ is an anime that can easily get you hooked with only a few episodes. If you’re a sucker for mystery shows that emphasize a lot on intellectual details, you will probably end up watching a lot more than a just few seasons of it. A highly recommended anime for anyone who even has the slightest interest in classic detective stories like ‘Sherlock‘.

Detective Conan English Dub:

As of now, only the first few seasons of ‘Detective Conan’ have received an official English Dub. Unfortunately, the English dubbed version is not available on any legit streaming platforms. You can still watch the anime on Crunchyroll with its official Japanese audio and English subtitles.

Detective Conan Plot:

‘Detective Conan’ centers around Shinichi Kudou, a young teenage boy with an extraordinary aptitude for solving the most complex detective cases. One day, he notices two very suspicious men and decides to follow them. This is when he becomes the prime witness of illegal activity but unfortunately, he gets caught spying on them and is forced to try a new experimental drug. Left on the verge of dying, he somehow survives this incident but it magically transforms him into his 7-year-old version.

Inspired by the mystery writers Arthur Conan Doyle and Ranpo Edogawa, he decides to take on a new identity – Conan Edogawa. And with this new alias, he dedicates his entire life to solving cases. Since his mind is still the same, he is able to use his exceptional sleuthing methods to find the truth behind every mystery that comes in his way and while he’s at it, he hopes that someday he will find a way to reverse the effects of the drug.

Detective Conan Characters:

Hiroshi Agasa

Hisroshi Agasa is Shinichi’s next-door neighbor and is well-known for his strange inventions. While quite a lot of his intentions are useless, he has been able to acquire some worthy patents over the years. He lives in a huge home that he keeps modifying from time to time. After being transformed into his seven-year-old version, the first person Shinichi visits for help is Agasa. Agasa warns him that he must be very careful while he looks for the Black Organization and also provides him several gadgets that help him with his detective work. He is quite an outgoing person who is known by everyone in his community for his joyous personality. He does not care too much about his failures and takes immense pride in all of his inventions.

Conan Edogawa

Shinichi Kudo is the main character and narrator of the anime. On a date with his childhood crush, he encounters two mysterious men and decides to follow them. When they catch him spying on them, they forcefully feed him a poison that transforms him into his 7-year-old self. This is when he takes up the alias Conan Edogawa and starts to use his detective skills to solve mysteries. After finding out that he is a kid, he rushes back home to his neighbor Agasa as he is the only man he trusts. He somehow convinces him that he is Shinichi and then receives a new identity to start his new life as a detective. From the beginning of the series, he is known as the “Savior of the police force”. He is also extremely blunt and direct about his opinions, due to which a lot of people just assume that he is rude and arrogant.

Ai Haibara

Ai Haibara is the creator of APTX 4869, the pill that shrinks Kinichi into Conan. She herself is a victim of her own magic pill and is on the run from the Black Organization. She stays with Agasa and is one of those few people who know about Conan’s real identity. Originally known as Shiho, she grew up with her sister in the Black Organization. Her parents were once scientists working under the organization and were reportedly killed in an accident. After she shows promising intelligence like her parents, she is sent to the US for completing her education and by the age of 13, she also starts working for the organization as a scientist. She initially works on a project known as “silver bullet” and later ends up discovering APTX 4869. The drug was supposed to kill without leaving a trace of the body of the victim. But it later turns out that it can only shrink a person. After trying the drug herself, she takes on a new identity and just like Shinichi, she starts attending Teitan Elementary School.

Genta Kojima

Genta is the self-proclaimed leader of the “detective boys” and is also a student at the Teitan Elementary School. He loves eating and generally eats a lot more than all of his friends combined. He just loves eel bowls and even when it comes to money, he tends to think in terms of how many bowls of eel and rice he can eat out of a fixed amount. While talking, he gets confused between similar sounding words and is not able to read even the simplest Kanji. Because of how dumb he is, Genta is often ridiculed by his classmates and friends at school. But even though he is rather brash and naive about the things around him, he is one person everyone can trust. His lack of awareness lands the “detective boys” in some very sticky situations but they never really ask him to leave because of how dependable he is.

Ran Mouri

Ran is Shinichi’s childhood friend and also becomes his love interest later. Her parents separated when she was only 7 and now the primary goal of her life is to bring them back together. She really cares for the people around her and has a very nurturing personality. She can get extremely anxious when the people she cares for are in some sort of trouble. She has big purple eyes with long dark brown hair and is considered to be attractive by many boys because of her slender athletic physique.
