Catwoman and Penguin to Feature in ‘The Batman’ Movie

Catwoman and Penguin will reportedly feature in the upcoming superhero movie ‘The Batman.’ According to THR Heat Vision newsletter, ‘The Batman’ director Matt Reeves has turned his focus to the dark knight’s notorious Rogues Gallery after finding his Bruce Wayne in Robert Pattinson the other day. Pattinson tops the list of contenders for new Batman along with Nicholas Hoult, reported Variety.

“You can’t have Batman without a villain,” Reeves told THR in January. “There will be a rogues gallery,” he added. ‘Batman’ franchise features one of the most celebrated rogue galleries in recent times. The key members of the gallery include Catwoman, The Joker, the Penguin, and The Riddler.

Catwoman was introduced on the big screen in Adam West’s 1966 movie ‘Batman,’ in which Lee Meriwether played the iconic villain. In Joel Schumacher’s 1997 movie ‘Batman & Robin,’ a full-fledged rogues gallery hit the screen. The movie featured Mr. Freeze (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger), Poison Ivy (played by Uma Thurman) and Bane (played by Robert Swenson) against George Clooney’s Batman.

The Penguin and Catwoman were featured together in Tim Burton‘s 1997 flick ‘Batman Returns.’ Danny DeVito played the Penguin while Michelle Pfeiffer appeared as Catwoman. Anne Hathaway played Catwoman in Christopher Nolan‘s ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’ But Nolan chose to name the character as ‘The Cat’ or Selina Kyle, which is her actual name. The Penguin, whose actual name is Oswald Cobblepot, was played by Burgess Meredith in the ABC series and 1966 movie ‘Batman’ movie. Robin Lord Taylor played the character in Fox’s series ‘Gotham.’

According to reports, Reeves is in the final stages of casting and will start his search for new Catwoman and Penguin after officially announce Pattinson as Batman. ‘The Batman’ is crucial for Warner Bros. after ‘Batman v Superman’ and ‘Justice League’ met with lukewarm responses at the box office.

Christian Bale, Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer have appeared as Batman in various movies. Bale is the most popular and fav-favourite ‘Batman’ actor so far with his stunning portrayal of the superhero in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy. Kevin Conroy voiced the superhero in ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ and Adam West starred as the protector of Gotham city on a TV show in the ’60s.

“It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation,” Reeves told THR about his version of Batman in January.
