Chance Plot: What is it about?
Chance revolves around Dr Eldon Chance, who is a neuropsychiatrist based in San Francisco. Apart from treating his patients, he is also going through a divorce and has a daughter who has financial issues in her life. The first season focuses on the doctor’s quest to understand his treacherous desires and fancies. Time and again, Laurie’s morals and etiquettes are brought under the scanner. He gets in trouble with his patient, Jaclyn Blackstone who suffers from corruption and an abusive partner. Jaclyn has symptoms of split personality disorder ever since the physical abuse from her partner. Her husband is a homicide cop who threatens anyone who takes his wife away. Laurie manages to seek help from a furniture restorer named Darius Pringle alongside his dealer Carl Allan. These people earn their bread mainly by beating people up, and Laurie uses them to get rid of Jaclyn’s abusive husband.
In the second season, we are treated to a continuation of the main plot with 10 hour-long episodes as this season begins with a lot of promise and contains more actions to keep the audience glued to their sofa sets. Detective Haynes persuades Laurie to help him in taking down a serial killer. Laurie soon finds himself very close to the serial killer and gets involved in a dangerous plot to prove him guilty. The story is gripping, and Laurie’s performance yet again stands out among the others in the series.
Laurie’s reckless behaviour and change in attitude put him in deep waters against Darius “‘D’ Pringle who has now started raising questions about his unusual dual character of black and white vigilantism. The walls of the system soon collapse on him as Lurie is forced to reintegrate himself and his life surrounding work and contemplate as to whether violence could be the only answer. He also faces challenges from his daughters as she also struggles with mental struggles, a trait she seemingly inherits from Laurie. After working with D, Chance finds himself more drawn to D’s violent ways to solve a problem.
Laurie puts another top-notch performance and the series overall is a compelling watch. The pace of is coupled brilliantly with engaging music. The tension does gives it a suspenseful touch as crucial information is brought forth to help with the mystery.
