Check Out First Trailer for Hulu’s ‘Wu-Tang Clan’ Series

Hulu has released the first trailer for the upcoming series ‘Wu-Tang Clan: An American Saga.’ The trailer introduces the cult hip-hop band members while following the formation of the pioneering hip-hop group. It also gives a glimpse of Joey Bada$$ as Inspectah Deck and Dave East as Method Man. ‘Wu-Tang Clan’ is co-created and written by Alex Tse and RZA, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Method Man.

The first look unveils the major attractions of the upcoming series punctuated with the slogan “Born in Shaolin, Made in America.”

“If you want to make it in this world, then put in the work, OK?” A man instructs RZA in the trailer, “You listening to beats — you ain’t listening to the whispers out in the streets,” the man continues.

Other members of ‘Wu-Tang Clan’ such as Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, and Inspectah Deck are also introduced through a rapid montage sequence in the trailer. Though other key figures like U-God, Masta Killa and Cappadonna are absent in clip, they will reportedly appear in the series.

The 10-episode series is based on the books ‘The Wu-Tang Manual’ and ‘Tao of Wu’ and chronicles the group’s step-by-step formation into a vibrant hip-hop collective based on Staten Island, New York City during the Nineties.

“I’m delighted to be partnering with Hulu and Imagine exploring the vast story of the Wuniverse,” RZA said in a statement at the time of the announcement of the project, “Wu-Tang through our music has always strove to inspire as we entertain. This opportunity to continue the Wu-Saga in a 10-episode series will exponentially increase our inspirational style of entertainment. In the immortal words of ODB, ‘Wu-Tang is for the Children.”

Wu-Tang Clan emerged as one of the most revolutionary hip-hop groups by the mid-90s. The mission of the group was to take on the establishment of the music industry by growing into a profit-making endeavour. Ashton Sanders, Shameik Moore, Dave East, Siddiq Saunderson, Marcus Callender, Julian Elijah Martinez, Zolee Griggs, Erika Alexander, TJ Atoms, and Johnell Young round out the cast.

The first three episodes of the series will be aired by Hulu on September 4, 2019. Other seven episodes will bow on a weekly basis. Showtime has released documentary musical series based on the group earlier this year.
