Check Out the First Trailer for Netflix’s ‘Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming ‘The Dark Crystal’ prequel series ‘The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.’ Based on the iconic 1982 film from Jim Henson, the series consists of 10 one-hour episodes. According to Collider, the plot traces back to the world of Thra where the three young Gelfings set out for a new adventure. The trailer looks stunning and hints at a faithful reboot to the original movie. The new series is also based on J.M. Lee’s ‘Dark Crystal’ novels ‘Shadows of the Dark Crystal’ and ‘Song of the Dark Crystal.’

When the three Gelfings discover the shocking secret behind Skeksis’ power, they embark on an adventure to trigger a rebellion against their oppressors. According to the official synopsis, ‘The Crystal of Truth’ is damaged and a mysterious sickness spreads across the land of Thra. But the Gelfings have to save their world at any cost. The series is set many years before the events of the 1982 movie. It uses stylized classic puppetry blended with advanced visual effects to recreate the kingdom. The trailer offers an impressive first look of the physical and digital worlds of fantasy blended in an amazing way.

The Gelfings are played by Taron Egerton (as Rian), Anya Taylor-Joy (as Brea) and Nathalie Emmanuel (as Deet). The other cast includes Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham Carter, Harris Dickinson, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong, and Alicia Vikander.

‘Age of Resistance’ is directed by Louis Leterrier, who is known for ‘The Incredible Hulk’ and ‘Now You See Me.’ The pivotal decision to retain the classic puppetry that made Henson’s original movie so unique gives Leterrier and his creative team a great opportunity to come up with a visually stunning piece of work.

Netflix has also revealed the first look poster of the series on the official Instagram handle of ‘Age of Resistance.’ “The Skeksis have left their mark,” reads the post. “But sleep Gelflings. The three suns bring light in 8 hours.”

Leterrier also executive produces the fantasy series along with Lisa Henson and Halle Stanford. Jeffrey Addiss, Will Matthews, Javier Grillo-Marxuach and Blanca Lista also join the project as executive producers. The series is produced by Ritamarie Peruggi with Tim Wellspring as the Line Producer and Cameron Richardson as the Associate Producer. Vivian Lee serves as the Co-Producer for the series.

All 10 episodes of ‘The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’ will be available on Netflix on August 30th. Check out the first teaser trailer of ‘The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’ below.
