Chicago P.D. Season 8: What to Expect?

‘Chicago P.D.’ is the second installment from Dick Wolf’s Chicago franchise. Created by Wolf and Matt Olmstead, the cop procedural drama follows the officers at the Intelligence Unit of the 21st District of the Chicago Police Department. Just like the other titles from Chicagoverse, ‘Chicago P.D’ is extremely compelling and forces you to re-imagine the classic male-dominated police dramas. However, it also has a strong female cast that makes it even more appealing.

The seventh outing of the series, which landed in September 2019, opened to terrific ratings and was ranked as one of the most-watched prime-time shows on cable. So that leaves us with one question: when will ‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 8 premiere? Let’s find out.

Chicago PD Season 8 Release Date: When Will It Premiere?

‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 7 premiered on September 25, 2019, on NBC. The seventh season had initially received an order of 23 episodes. Unfortunately, due to the unexpected global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, its production was stopped on March 13, 2020 — two weeks before the show was supposed to conclude filming. Season 7 ended prematurely after spanning 20 episodes on April 15, 2020.

Now, where does that leave us? The finale was, well, not meant to be a ‘finale’. So how are the creators planning to include the incomplete storylines from the planned three episodes (left unaired)? Well, first things first. You would be happy to know that ‘Chicago P.D.’ has been renewed for an eighth, ninth, and tenth season!

Paul Telegdy, Chairman, NBC Entertainment, confirmed the news in a statement, where he said: “Dick Wolf has proven time and time again that he makes shows audiences love. We are delighted, excited and proud that as part of this epic deal with Wolf Entertainment, NBC’s loyal audience will know that their favorite shows have a certain future for the next three years.” — as reported by Deadline in February 2020.

‘Chicago P.D’ has always returned annually during the month of September on NBC. But this year, the scenario might change. For each of its seasons, filming usually takes place in Chicago in July every year. Currently, the city is in lockdown and it’s uncertain when the stay-at-home orders will be lifted. If by chance, things fall in place in the next few months, we can expect ‘Chicago PD’ Season 8 to release sometime in 2021.

But the next season will be worth the wait. The showrunners have already teased that it has a lot in store, including someone getting murdered! They have also hinted that the finale of season 7 might be included in the 4th or 5th episode of season 8.

Chicago P.D. Season 8 Cast: Who Can Be In It?

In season 8, all of the lead cast members are expected to make their returns — namely, Jason Beghe as Sergeant Henry “Hank” Voight, Jesse Lee Soffer as Detective Jay Halstead, Tracy Spiridakos as Detective Hailey Upton, Marina Squerciati as Officer Kim Burgess, Patrick John Flueger as Officer Adam Ruzek, LaRoyce Hawkins as Detective Kevin Atwater, Lisseth Chavez as Officer Vanessa Rojas, and Amy Morton as Desk Sergeant Trudy Platt.
