On December 1, 2017, Netflix dropped ‘Dark,’ its first German-language series, that traverses through multiple timelines to investigate the mysterious disappearance of children in the quaint town of Winden. The science fiction series became an overnight sensation. It was lauded by the critics and the audiences for its mind-bending narrative, production design, gripping twists, multi-faceted characters, grim setting, and haunting background score.
The Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese creation earned several accolades, including the prestigious Grimme-Preis award. After two successful seasons, the show is set to return for the third and final season.
Dark Season 3 Release Date

Dark Season 3 Cast: Who is in it?
As the show deals with parallel timelines, we can expect almost all the major characters to make a comeback, even if they are deceased. As of now, the confirmed cast of the third season comprises Louis Hofmann as young Jonas, Jordis Triebel as Katharina, Lisa Vicari as young Martha, Mark Waschke as adult Noah, Andreas Pietschmann as adult Jonas and Lea van Acken as future Silja, among others.
It can also include Moritz Jahn as teen Magnus, Sandra Borgmann as old Elisabeth, Carlotta von Falkenhayn as young Elisabeth, Dietrich Hollinderbäumer as old Jonas/Adam, Leopold Hornung as Wöller, Nele Trebs as young Katharina, and many more. Like we mentioned earlier, expect many surprises as far as character appearances are concerned.
Dark Season 3 Plot: What can it be About?
In the gasp-inducing finale of the second season, Elisabeth switches the machine on in 2053. At the same time, Franziska and Magnus turn it on in 1921. It leads to the activation of the dark matter in the year 2020. Just when Katharina opens the Sic Mundus gate, a portal is created between Elisabeth in 2053 and Charlotte in 2020. In a shocking turn of events, Martha from an alternate reality appears in front of young Jonas and switches on an alternate time machine, saying, “The question isn’t from what time, but from what world.”
Season 3 will answer all the burning questions from the first and second seasons. We can expect the season to continue exploring the mystery of multiple realities to reveal the truth behind the time-bending loop. It will be interesting to see how all the timelines fit into the narrative and lead us to the conclusion. Why is Adam (actually Jonas) the way he is? What forced him to follow the path of darkness and create an apocalypse?
Also, the third season teases: “Tick tock, tock tick, tock!” Now, does this mean that everything that has transpired so far – “Tick Tock” – will be undone – “Tock tick?” And does the last “Tock” refer to the story transporting further back than the original beginning to break the cycle? Whatever it is, expect to have your mind-blown!
