How did David Blaine earn his money and wealth?

David Blaine is a magician, endurance artist and an illusionist who has performed many feats which have set as well as broken many world records. He was born David Blaine White on April 4, 1973, in Brooklyn, New York. He is of half Puerto Rican and half Italian descent from his father’s side and Russian Jewish from his mother’s side. He saw a magician perform in the subway when he was four years old and that was the moment which triggered his interest in magic. He moved with his mother and stepfather to Little Falls, New Jersey when he was ten years old and he moved to Manhattan, New York when he was 17 years old.

Blaine starred in David Blaine: Street Magic” (1997) which was aired on ABC. It was his first TV special. His performance amazed everyone through his low-key and ultracool manner. Blaine explained after the show that he wanted to bring back magic where it was 100 years ago. He later starred in “Magic Man” where he was seen traveling the country and entertaining unsuspecting pedestrians in Compton, Atlantic City, Dallas, New York City, the Mojave Desert and San Francisco. The show was recorded by a small crew who used handheld cameras.

Blaine has performed many high profile feats such as the stunt which he called “Buried Alive” (1999). He entombed himself for seven days in an underground plastic box which was placed under a 3-ton water tank. He was able to communicate with the outside world through a hand buzzer. There was an around-the-clock emergency crew available on standby. He only drank two to three teaspoons of water a day during the seven days that he was inside the tomb.    Another time he performed the stunt “Frozen in Time” (2000) where he was encased in a large block of ice located in Times Square, New York City.

He remained inside the box of ice for 63 hours, 42 minutes and 15 seconds during which he was supplied water and air through a pipe and his urine was removed from another pipe. After the stunt, Blaine said that it took him a month to recover from the tough and grueling stunt and also said that he would not attempt such a difficult stunt again in the future. In 2002 he performed the stunt “Vertigo” where he was lifted 100 feet high and 22 inches wide pillar by crane in Bryant Park, New York City. He had not harnessed himself and had two handles to hold on to if the weather became unfavorable. He managed to remain on the pillar for 35 hours after which he began to see hallucinations. He ended the stunt by jumping off the pillar and suffered a mild concussion when he landed on the landing platform.

Blaine has continued to enthrall people with his stunts. Blaine has always received favorable reviews by the press. He was called the “hottest name in magic right now” by USA Today.
