How did David Schwimmer earn his money and wealth?

David Schwimmer is an actor as well as a director and a producer in the United States. He was born as David Lawrence Schwimmer on November 2, 1966, in Flushing, Queens and is of Jewish origin. Both his parents, Arthur and Arlene Coleman-Schwimmer were attorneys. He has a sister named Ellie who is older than him. When he was 10 years old, Schwimmer and his family moved to Los Angeles where he had his first brush with acting. He was cast in a Jewish version of Cinderella as the fairy godmother. He attended a workshop on Shakespeare by the English actor Ian McKellen in Los Angeles in 1979 and thoroughly enjoyed himself. He went on to take part in a contest at the Southern California Festival three times in a row and won the first prize twice. Schwimmer and his family moved to Beverley Hills where he attended Beverley Hills High School. While he always considered himself a misfit in the school, he did well in subjects like math and science. He always thought he’d become a doctor.

He enrolled for drama classes after which he appeared in stage productions. As a 16-year-old, he went to Northwestern University to attend a summer acting program after his school drama teacher encouraged him. He found the experience there “enlightening and exhilarating”. Schwimmer wanted to get into acting right after he graduated from Beverley Hills High School in 1984 but his parents did not allow him to pursue acting without a college degree first. They felt that it would be wiser to have a college degree to fall back to. He decided to go back and pursue his graduation from Northwestern University where he studied theatre. He was also a part of an improv group called No-Fun Mud Piranhas along with Stephen Colbert, the comedian, and actor. He graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in theatre and speech in 1988. He immediately co-founded the “Lookingglass Theatre Company”. He also moved back to Los Angeles to pursue acting professionally.

Schwimmer’s earliest role was in ABC’s TV movie “A Deadly Silence” (1989) as a supporting role. He has also appeared in “LA Law” (1992), a few episodes of “The Wonder Years”, “NYPD Blues” and “Flight of the Intruder” (1991) which was his feature film debut. From 1994 to 2004, Schwimmer played Dr. Ross Geller in the hit sitcom “Friends”. It is considered to be his breakthrough role. He was even nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 1995. He has also acted in other Hollywood movies like “The Pallbearer” (1996), “Kissing a Fool” (1998), “Seven Nights” (1998), “Six Days” (1998) and “Apt Pupil” (1998).

Schwimmer has also ventured into direction and “Run Fatboy Run” (2007) was his directorial feature debut.
