‘Deadwind’ is a Scandinavian drama that follows the life of a freshly widowed homicide detective who is assigned a convoluted case of the murder of Anna Bergdahl, as she gets back to work at the Helsinki Police Department after a long hiatus. Upon its premiere in 2018, the Finnish crime drama received massive critical acclaim for its riveting narrative, realistic investigation scenes, gloomy setting, and compelling performances from the cast.
Created by Rike Jokela along with Jari Olavi Rantala and Kirsi Porkka, the show was also received a Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize nomination. After binge-watching the second season, fans must be wondering: Will there be a ‘Deadwind’ season 3? Let’s find out!
Deadwind Season 3 Release Date
‘Deadwind’ season 2 dropped in its entirety on July 1, 2020, on Netflix. It consists of eight episodes with a runtime of 44 minutes each. Ahead of its Netflix release, the show premiered on the original network Yle TV on April 5, 2020.
As far as another season is concerned, here’s what we know. The network hasn’t made any official announcement regarding the cancellation or renewal of the Nordic-noir crime series yet. However, if we look at the favorable response, the show has garnered from the critics and audiences, there’s a high chance that the show might get renewed for a third season. Although it has been rumored that the creators are already developing a season 3, we can’t be sure until there’s an official confirmation. If and when it gets renewed, we can expect ‘Deadwind’ season 3 to release sometime in 2021, on Yle TV, and a few months later, on Netflix.
Deadwind Season 3 Cast: Who is in it?
Pihla Viitala headlines the cast as Finnish homicide detective Sofia Karppi. Joining the cast as rookie detective Sakari Nurmi, is Lauri Tilkanen. Jani Volanen appears as Usko Bergdah, while Leena Pöysti essays the character of Sara Tulisuoto, the mayor of Helsinki.
The cast members also include Rami Peltonen as Poliisi, Raimo Grönberg as Tapio Koskimäki, Mimosa Willamo as Henna Honkasuo, Noa Tola as Emil Karppi, Vera Kiiskinen as Raisa Peltola, Ville Myllyrinne as JP, and Jani Volanen as Usko Bergdahl among others. Almost all the main characters might return to reprise their respective roles in the third season. Season 3 can also feature some new additions in the cast.
Deadwind Season 3 Plot: What can it be About?
Season 2 follows the hardworking homicide detective Sofia Karppi, as she gears up to spend the winter vacation with her family. However, things take a turn and her plans go kaput after the police find two cold dead bodies lying on tunnel construction sites, located under the Gulf of Finland. One body is found in Helsinki, while the other is discovered in Tallinn.
The headstrong mayor of Helsinki, Sara Tulisuoto, is concerned with the killings as he is responsible for the construction of the tunnel, and is also striving to waive off the corruption charges that have been imposed upon him by the opposition. Karppi bands together with Sakari Nurmi and they begin their investigation. The state of the murders takes a toll on Karppi’s emotional health, yet she still strives to serve justice and unearth the truth.
Season 3 might continue to showcase the thrilling encounters of Sofia Karppi, a determined police detective of the Helsinki Police Department, as she continues to solve brutal murders and killings. In the third season, we can expect Karppi to pull out all stops to ensure the perpetrators are thrown behind bars and also to uncover the true motive behind the brutal murders. As her mental health deteriorates with each case, Karppi can even find herself on the deep emotional end.
