Devs E05: What to Expect?

March 20, 2020
4 min read

Devs‘ is a science-based thriller that makes the prospect of future predicting technology believable. However, the mini-series is not a science-fiction story since a murder investigation is what takes center stage. The series is created, written and directed by Alex Garland (Ex Machina) and so far, the artist has justified his talent and reputation.

The fourth episode of ‘Devs’ turns out to be a rollercoaster ride. Lyndon gets fired for ditching the basic deterministic principle of the Devs machine, despite being able to project a clear sound recording of Jesus Christ’s voice. Lily narrowly manages to flee Kenton and decides to report the doctored video of Sergei’s suicide to the authorities. However, she ends up getting arrested and handed to an involuntary psychiatric hold.

Devs Episode 5 Release Date: When Does it Premiere?

The fifth episode of ‘Devs’ is scheduled to premiere on March 26, 2020 on Hulu. The episode will most likely be uploaded at 6 AM E.T./3 AM P.T. However, the time is subject to change. The show returns one week after the fourth episode was released on the streaming platform and now follows a weekly format.

How to Watch Devs Episode 5 Online?

‘Devs’ is a limited series that is available to stream only on Hulu. Hence, the only place you can watch it is on the Hulu platform. If you do not already have a subscription for the platform, you can get a one-week free trial.

Devs Episode 5 Spoilers:

After the explosive conclusion of the fourth episode of ‘Devs,’ fans must be wondering with impatience about what is in store. The most burning question that viewers would have is if Kenton kills Jamie. In the fourth episode, he is shown manhandling Jamie after Lily gets arrested. However, what he does with Jamie exactly is not revealed.

The blurb for the fifth episode provides some indication on that front: “Kenton pays Jamie a visit to guarantee his silence, while Katie covertly exploits the Devs system for her own ends.” This pretty much confirms the fact Kenton does not actually kill Jamie. However, viewers can expect a gruesome torture scene since Kenton would go to any lengths to keep Jamie silent. We will have to wait and watch whether Jamie gets scared and decides to not help Lily.

Moreover, another thing the blurb teases is Katie using the Devs machine for personal reasons. Katie is depicted to be fearless. She is one of the few people on the show who can stand up to Forest. She has a problem with Forest firing Lyndon since she does not think Lyndon did anything wrong. Hence, we can expect her to use Lyndon’s method to conjure up clear images from the future and possibly try to change something. Yet, she is the one that reminds Forest that the future is fixed, just like the past.

However, the fifth episode might see Katie using Lyndon’s many-worlds interpretation which does not give exactly accurate results. It provides any one result from an infinite number of possible, alternate realities. Hence, Katie using this interpretation could be a means to show the viewers how the many-worlds interpretation could be dangerous and why Forest was right. Perhaps, Katie tries to change a future event that is actually going to happen differently in the current/our reality.

Apart from that, we can also expect to see how Lily is treated by the police (presumably not so well). Whether Lily manages to free herself remains to be seen. However, the Devs machine also predicts that Lily is going to die in 48 hours…
