Doctor Who Season 12 Episode 5 Recap:
The fifth episode of ‘Doctor Who’ witnessed the Doctor coming to terms with the past and a beloved character gracing the screen. The episode begins with a lady named Ruth who takes people on tours of Gloucester. The Judoon, a rhinoceros-like, alien police force who have made appearances in the past show up.
The Judoon have come for Ruth’s husband, Lee. The doctor saves Lee, however a woman named Gat who seems to have hired the Judoon vaporizes Lee. Lee sends a cryptic message to Ruth before dying. Ruth starts to see visuals of a lighthouse and instantly turns into a killing machine, fighting off the Judoon barehanded.
Ruth goes to this lighthouse where she was raised. The Doctor investigates a grave and finds what looks like the top of a TARDIS.
Captain Jack Harness from the spin-off, ‘Torchwood’ makes a special appearance and warns the Doctor of the world being in danger. He warns her of not accepting any request a “lone cyberman” might make to her in the future.
At the end of the episode, it is revealed that Ruth is none other than…the Doctor! She had used a technology called the Chameleon Arch to turn into Ruth. Ruth and the Doctor are practically the same person! Ruth and the Doctor must fight Gat now. However, when Gat tries to fire Ruth’s gun, it misfires to kill her. Ruth had purposely tinkered with the gun to set such a trap.
The episode ends without providing much explanation. But…there are two Doctors now!
