How did Duane ‘Dog’ Chapman earn his money and wealth?

Duane ‘Dog’ Chapman is a bounty hunter as well as a former bail bondsman from the United States. He was born Duane Lee ‘Dog’ Chapman on February 2, 1953, in Groom, Texas to Barbara and Wesley Chapman. He grew up with three siblings, two younger sisters and one brother. He was sentenced to a Texas prison after he was convicted for first-degree murder in 1976. He was paroled in January 1979. He does not own any firearm due to his felony conviction. The United Kingdom refused to allow him entry because of his conviction. His first wife divorced him while he was serving his sentence in prison and married his best friend.

Chapman became a bounty hunter after he had helped tackle an inmate who was trying to escape prison while he was serving his sentence. After he came out of prison, he captured Andrew Luster in 2003. Luster was trying to escape the United States in the middle of his trial. He works with his “hunt team” which includes his sons Tim and Leland Chapman. All of three of them captured Luster in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where he had been living under an assumed name. The three bounty hunters along with Luster were jailed by Mexican authorities as bounty hunting is illegal in Mexico. After Luster’s capture, he was sent back to prison to face his 125-year sentence. The capture of Luster garnered international news and focus on Chapman. He and his sons were given bail only after his wife Beth alerted the media. They became international bail jumpers after they returned to the United States. After a prolonged case, all charges against Chapman and his sons were dropped by the Mexican authorities in 2007.

Chapman’s unusual career led his appearance on “Take this Job” which featured individuals with unusual occupations. He started his own reality series “Dog The Bounty Hunter” in August 2004. Ozzy Osbourne performed the theme song of the show. The show was on air for eight seasons after which it was canceled in 2012. He followed it up with another show “Dog and Beth: On the Hunt” which also featured his wife Beth and son Leland. They worked with failing bond agencies and helped them recover their failing business and capture their most wanted fugitives. His latest show is “Dog and Beth: Fight of Their Lives” which showcases Beth’s diagnosis with throat cancer.

Chapman released his autobiography in 2007 and titled it “You Can Run But You Can’t Hide”. It debuted on the New York Times bestseller at number one. He wrote another book in 2010 which he titled “Where Mercy Is Shown, Mercy Is Given”.

Chapman has been married five times and has had relationships with several women. He is the father of 11 children.
