‘Dynasty’ is an American primetime television soap opera that airs on The CW Television Network. Developed by Sallie Patrick, Josh Schwartz, and Stephanie Savage, the show is a reboot of the immensely popular ABC series of the same name that aired between 1981 and 1989. The show follows two extremely wealthy American families fighting over their fortunes and their children.

‘Dynasty’ has had two successful seasons so far and is in the middle of its third season. Here’s everything we know about it.

Dynasty Season 3 Episode 9 Release Date

‘Dynasty’ Season 3 premiered on October 12, 2018 on the CW. After airing for 8 episodes, the show went on a mid-season break — as it always does — on December 6, 2019. The good news is that fans won’t have to wait for long for the show to come back on the tv screens. ‘Dynasty’ Season 3 episode 9 is expected to release on January 17, 2020. You can watch it on CBS.

As far as the future of the show goes, fans should know that the show had enjoyed brilliant ratings over the years. Given this fact, The CW is unlikely to pull the plug on the show anytime soon — or at least that’s what we hope.

Dynasty Cast: Who is in it?

The show primarily revolves around the extremely rich Carrington family, who have a vast fortune owing to their energy business.

Grant Show plays the role of the Carrington family patriarch and CEO of Carrington Atlantic, Blake Carrington, while Nathalie Kelley plays Cristal Flores Farrington, Blake’s current wife and the stepmother of his two biological children. Nicollette Sheridan, meanwhile, plays Blake’s ex-wife, Alexis Carrington, and the estranged mother of Fallon and Steven.

Elizabeth Gillies plays the role of the main protagonist, Fallon Carrington, who is an energy executive and heiress to the vast Carrington fortune. Robert Christopher Riley, meanwhile, plays the role of Michael Culhane, the chauffeur of the Carringtons and Fallon’s lover.

James McKay plays the role of Fallon’s gay, environmentalist brother, Steven Carrington, who is elder to and more level-headed than Fallon. Rafael de la Fuente, meanwhile, slips into the shoes of Samuel Josiah “Sammy Jo” Jones, who is Cristal’s wayward nephew, and husband to Steven.

Additionally, Sam Adegoke plays Blake’s young business rival Jeff Colby, and Sam Underwood plays Adam Carrington/Dr. Mike Harrison, the eldest son of Blake and Alexis who got kidnapped while he was an infant.

The show, of course, has dozens of other cast members playing characters who make recurring and episodic appearances throughout the drama. In Season 3, we expect at least the main cast members to make a comeback and reprise their roles in the family drama.

However, it should be noted that Nicollette Sheridan will not be reprising her role as Alexis Carrington in Season 3. Announcing her departure, Sheridan said, “Working on the Dynasty reboot and reprising the iconic role of Alexis has been thoroughly enjoyable, but the chance to spend precious time with my terminally ill mother is more important to me right now. I am profoundly grateful to Mark Pedowitz (The CW) and David Stapf (CBS) for graciously allowing me to return to Los Angeles to be with her, and I wish them and everyone associated with the show nothing but continued success. I am hopeful that my fans will embrace my successor with as much passion as they embraced me.”

Dynasty Plot: What is it about?

The drama that unfolds in ‘Dynasty’ begins with Fallon expressing her displeasure at her father Blake’s engagement to Cristal, who is her rival employee at the family company, Carrington Atlantic. Unhappy and quite enraged at the engagement, Fallon makes repeated attempts to separate the couple. However, her plan backfires and costs her a promotion. Left with no option, Fallon then allies with Blake’s nemesis and former employee, Jeff Colby. During all this drama, Cristal’s opportunistic nephew, Sammy Jo, who shares a romantic relationship with Steven, arrives on the scene and threatens to expose Fallon’s shady past.

However, despite these trying circumstances, the Carringtons manage to form a united front after the mysterious and suspicious death of Cristal’s former lover. Yet, the peace and harmony at the Carrington mansion does not last long, and things get even more complicated when Blake’s ex-wife, Alexis arrives at the mansion with her own agenda. Further, the Carrington family drama escalates when Cristal perishes in a fatal fire, and as the show progresses, more rocky relationships and secrets rear their head.

Interestingly, while the reboot is largely based on the original soap opera, it does make certain changes to several elements of the original. In the reboot, the setting is in Atlanta, Georgia, as opposed to the original’s setting in Denver, Colorado. Further, it makes Steven’s homosexuality an accepted fact to Blake, and changes the gender of gold digger Sammy Jo from a woman to a gay man. Further, unlike the original series which predominantly had white characters, the reboot changes the ethnicity of Cristal and Sammy Jo to Hispanic. Similarly, the ethnicities of the Colby family and Fallon’s lover Michael Culhane are changed to African-American. This, understandably, gives the show a more diverse ethnic background, in tune with modern times.

In terms of reception, Season 1 of ‘Dynasty’ did not find favor among television critics, who gave it a poor score of 51% on Rotten Tomatoes, and concluded, saying: “Dynasty’s revival retains enough of its predecessor’s over-the-top allure to offer a glamorous guilty pleasure in its first season, even if it never quite recaptures the magic of the original.” Season 2 is not rated on the review aggregator site. Among viewers, however, ‘Dynasty’, enjoys better popularity, and the show has a decent overall rating of 7.3/10 on IMDb.
