5. The Croods 2 (2020)
‘The Croods 2’ is an upcoming sequel to ‘The Croods’. The movie had originally been canceled after the purchase of DreamWorks by Universal Pictures in 2016 but was announced as being back in production on September 19, 2017. It was also confirmed that the original actors would reprise their roles. However, DeMicco, the co-director of the first film, won’t be returning as he is directing ‘Vivo’ for Sony Pictures Animation. In October 2017, it was reported that Joel Crawford will serve as director and Mark Swift is set to produce.
‘The Croods 2′ is set to be released on December 23, 2020. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, and Ryan Reynolds will reprise their roles in the sequel. 4. Cruella (2021)
Craig Gillespie was in early talks to direct ‘Cruella’, a live-action take on the ‘101 Dalmatians’ villainess. Emma Stone has been set to play the fashionista. Andrew Gunn is producing ‘Cruella’ with Marc Platt. Stone will play the infamous villain Cruella De Vil in what is being billed as an origin story, set in the early 1980s with a punk vibe. De Vil was first seen in the 1961 animated classic ‘101 Dalmatians’. Glenn Close played her in the 1996 live-action film produced by John Hughes, which featured the character as the head of a fashion house. The casting of Emma Stone seems to be an interesting choice, considering more often than not Disney villains are mostly older women. The movie is set to hit the theaters on May 28, 2021.
3. The Menu (TBA)
‘The Menu’ is an upcoming satirical comedy that stars Emma Stone and Ralph Fiennes. The focus of the movie is an eccentric culinary event that has been planned for an exclusive island. A young couple makes the journey to this place to enjoy the lavish spread that the chef has cooked up. However, when they arrive, they find that there are more than a few surprises on the menu. Fiennes appears in the role of the chef who adds the surprising ingredients to the otherwise lavish spread. Stone appears as one part of the couple that arrives on the island. Directed by Alexander Payne the upcoming project has been billed as a Tarantinoesque take on ‘The One-Percent’. The movie promises to have some dark humor involved, which is where we expect Stone to be working her magic.
Payne has excellent films like ‘Nebraska’ and ‘The Descendants’ to his name, and although he has started off with a small budget, the involvement of high profile stars leads us to believe that the upcoming project will be nothing short of a resounding success. However, the movie is still in pre-production stages and does not have a release date set.
2. Babylon (TBA)
Damien Chazelle is all set to team up once again with his ‘La La Land’ star, Emma Stone, as he returns to Hollywood for his upcoming project as well. Titled ‘Babylon’, not much is known about the project but it promises to be Chazelle’s largest project yet and the director plans on having an all-star ensemble cast for the movie. Chazelle, whose love for Hollywood is evident, is making a period piece set in the 1920s in Hollywood. Naturally, some of you might be compelled to draw a link to Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood‘, which is a love letter to Los Angeles and Hollywood in its own right and captures a moment when the industry is shifting.
Chazelle will be attempting to form his own connection with Hollywood in the upcoming project, ‘Babylon’, as the director will set his film at a time when the industry makes a shift from silent films to the talkies. We can expect to see a mixture of real-life and fictional characters in the upcoming project, where Emma Stone is set to play an important role. For now, Lionsgate and Paramount are vying for the project and it is in extremely nascent stages. Thus, no release date has been fixed for it yet.
1. Little White Corvette (TBA)
‘Little White Corvette’ is an action-comedy movie that has been stuck in development hell for an extremely long time. The script of the movie turns the focus on a dysfunctional pair of siblings that includes a nerdy younger brother as well as a wild older sister. Together, the two stumble upon a stash of cocaine in their deceased father’s 1977 Corvette Stingray. The surprising discovery comes with the dawning of the realization that they can sell the drugs and make enough money to make all their problems disappear. Thus, the two set up a million-dollar deal in Miami. However, the road trip to the drug deal is filled with troubles and soon things start to go south for the brother and sister when they discover that they are being tailed by cops. Moreover, there seems to be a mysterious man in a Dodge Demon, who the siblings cannot shake off.
Dylan O’Brien, the star of the ‘Maze Runner’ franchise, is all set to appear in the role of the brother, while the role of the sister has not been cast yet. Emma Stone is attached to the project as an executive producer and undoubtedly her vision will benefit the execution of the upcoming project.
The Favourite (2018)
Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos ‘The Favourite’ stars Olivia Colman, Emma Stone, Rachel Weisz, Nicholas Hoult, Joe Alwyn, James Smith, and Mark Gatiss. The film made a lot of buzz in the industry and won several awards. Set in the 18th century, the story revolves around the politics between two cousins jockeying to be court favorites during the reign of Queen Anne. The film had its world premiere at the prestigious Venice Film Festival on August 30th and released widely in the United States on 23rd November 2018.
Emma Stone tried her hand at TV series with this American dark comedy. It is based on the Norwegian television series and is premiered on September 21, 2018, on Netflix. ‘Maniac’ is written by Patrick Somerville and directed by Cary Fukunaga. The show also stars Jonah Hill. The show follows two strangers caught in the trials of a mysterious pharmaceutical company.
