This biographical drama is based on the life of Phoolan Devi aka Bandit Queen, an Indian dacoit who would go on to become a politician. The film is based on author Mala Sen’s book ‘India’s Bandit Queen: The True Story of Phoolan Devi’ and showcases the hardships and abuse she faced as a young girl, of a lower caste, after being married off to a much older guy. How she falls in with a troop of dacoits led by Vikram Mallah Mastana in July 1979 and grows to become the legendary dacoit is what follows. The film also shows her relationship with Vikram Mallah and ends with her surrender in February 1983.
