How did Evander Holyfield earn his money and wealth?

Evander Holyfield is a former professional boxer who retired in 2011 after he joined the profession in 1984. He is called “The Real Deal” as he is the undisputed champion in both heavyweight and cruiserweight divisions and the first and till date, the only boxer in history to achieve this feat. Holyfield was born on October 19, 1962, in Atmore, Alabama, a mill town. He had eight siblings and he was the youngest. He was a resident of the crime-ridden Bowen Homes Housing Projects in Atlanta. He was seven years old when he began boxing. He went on to win the Boys Club boxing tournament.  He qualified to compete in his first Junior Olympics when he was 13 years old. He also became the Southeastern Regional Champion and received the Best Boxer Award when he was 15 years old. He has won a silver medal at the 1983 Pan American Games in Caracas, Venezuela when he was 20 years old. He lost the gold to Pablo Romero, the Cuban world champion. He also won the bronze medal at the 1984 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, California. He was the National Golden Gloves Champion in the same year.

Holyfield turned professional in 1984 when he fought in the lightweight category against Lionel Byarm and won it. He won in the next bouts that he fought against Eric Winbush, Fred Brown and Mark Rivera. He later moved up in the cruiserweight division and won an eight-round decision over Tyrone Booze. He then moved to the heavyweight division as he wanted to participate in the World Heavyweight Championships. In his first fight in the new division, he won against James “Quick” Tillis.

He has fought against other boxers such as Buster Douglas, Bert Cooper, Riddick Bowe, Michael Moorer, Vaughn Bean, Lennox Lewis, John Ruiz, Chris Byrd, Sultan Ibragimov, Nikolai Valuev, Francois Botha, Sherman “The Tank” Williams, Brian Nielson and James Toney. He is also known for his rivalry with Mike Tyson. One of the most bizarre fights in the history of boxing took place between Holyfield and Tyson when Tyson ripped off a bit of Holyfield’s ears. The fight is called “The Bite Fight”.  He retired from professional boxing in June 2014 and has since been a boxing advisor to Zhang Zhilei, a heavyweight prospect.

Holyfield founded “Real Deal Records” which signed the group “Exhale” who were briefly successful. He has appeared on TV where he has endorsed many products like Diet Coke and Coca-Cola. He also has a video game by Sega Genesis and titled “Evander Holyfield’s Real Deal Boxing”. He was also appeared in “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” in 1990 where he played himself, “Necessary Roughness”, “Summer of Sam”, “Blood Salvage”, “Nickelodeon GUTS”, “Dancing with the Stars”, “Celebrity Big Brother (UK)” and “Bailando 2016”.

Holyfield has been married four times and each of the marriages ended in divorce. He has 11 children from six women.
