Family Karma Season 1

From the network that brought us shows like ‘Shahs of Sunset,’ ‘Mexican Dynasties,’ ‘The Real Housewives,’ and ‘Below Deck,’ comes a reality docu-series ‘Family Karma,’ that follows seven friends as they try to maintain an equilibrium between their personal endeavors and their parents’ control on their lives. Sounds pretty basic, right? Well, what makes the show extraordinary is the fact that the friends are first-generation Indian immigrants, which makes ‘Family Karma,’ the first U.S. series to feature an all-Indian-American cast.

The show promises to deliver an accurate depiction of the glitz and glam of the Indian culture while also highlighting the bane of interference of relatives, gender stereotypes, and LGBTQI+ inclusivity in Indian families. Read on to learn more details about the ‘Family Karma’ season 1!

Family Karma Season 1 Release Date: When Will it Premiere?

‘Family Karma’ season 1 is all set to release on Sunday, March 8, 2020, at 9 pm ET on Bravo TV.

Family Karma Cast: Who is in it?

The cast comprises seven friends – Bali Chainani, Monica Vaswani, Brian Benni, Anisha Ramakrishna, Amrit Kapai, Vishal Parvani, and Shaan Patel.

The show also features the parents, love interests, friends, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandmother, grandfather, and other members of the extended families of each lead.

What is Family Karma About?

Will the parents understand the “American Way,” or will the kids succumb to the pressure of Indian culture? It shares the DNA with ‘Keeping Up with The Kardashians’ but follows the lives of seven friends as they deal with the “gifts” of the cultural heritage bestowed on them by their parents and, of course, India.

‘Family Karma’ puts the spotlight on the cast members, their current undertakings, their family background, and also their social life – Anisha Ramakrishna, who has ten years of experience in the New York Fashion industry, aims at carrying forward the legacy of her family business. Amrit Kapai seeks his parents’ blessings to extend his law firm from Chicago to Miami and is also working on his long-distance relationship with his Chicago based boyfriend. Brian Benni’s parents want him to settle down with a “perfect Indian girl.” Still, he has set his eyes on his friend/wing-woman Monica Vaswani, who is a free-spirited, independent and career-oriented techie and an aspiring Bollywood choreographer. Yes, the total opposite.

Bali Chainani is a single mother and a socialite who also gels well with her friends’ parents. A self-proclaimed “man-child” Vishal Parvani struggles to gain the stamp of approval from his fiance’s mother and has been staying with his parents despite being engaged for over three years. And last but not least, Shaan Patel wants to get out of his parents’ financial shadow and start his own business venture.

Although these seven are friends, the show isn’t devoid of drama. It is an honest portrayal of the clashes, confrontations, and changing relationship dynamics among the friends as well as their family members. Apart from that, the show is packed with the extravagance of Indian parties, cultural functions, and religious ceremonies. Also, the phrase “Get Married” gets thrown around so many times, you can basically play ‘Take a shot when’ each time it comes on screen.
