Fate/Extra Last Encore Season 2: Premiere Date, Characters, Plot

Fate/Extra Last Encore (also known as Feito/Ekusutora Rasuto Ankōru in Japanese) is a fantasy anime television series by Shaft which is based on a video game called Fate/Extra. Created by Type-Moon and Image Epoch, and published by Marvelous Entertainment, the dungeon crawl-style role-playing game (RPG) was released in Japan on July 22, 2010 for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) platform, and a year later, the game made its way to players in North America, where it was released in three different editions. Subsequently, in 2013, a follow up game called Fate/Extra CCC was released in Japan. However, the follow up game was not intended as a sequel to the original game, but instead, it served as a sort of an alternate way of developing the story of the original game.

Around the time of the launch of the initial game, in April 2011, the video game was also adapted into a manga series, which was written and illustrated by Robi~na. Years later, Shaft decided to adapt the franchise into an anime television series, and the first part of Season 1, also known as Fate/Extra Last Encore: Oblitus Copernican Theory, premiered on January 28, 2018. Months later, it was followed by the release of the second part of Season 1, also known as Fate/Extra Last Encore: Illustrias Geocentric Theory, on July 29, 2018. Since then, fans of the franchise have been waiting to hear news on a second season. Here’s everything we know about the prospects of Season 2 thus far.

Fate/Extra Last Encore Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?

Fate/Extra Last Encore season 1 released on January 28, 2018 and ran until April 1, 2018. Soon after the first season, a 3-episode Fate/Extra Last Encore: Illustrias Geocentric Theory released on July 29, 2018, but in the months which have followed since then, there has been no news of a second season (technically it could be Fate/Extra Last Encore season 3).

However, there’s no reason to panic just yet since anime shows are sometimes renewed many years after the first season. Further, considering the fact that new volumes of the manga series are still being published, there’s no dearth of source material, and a second season could well be made. Our best guess is that Fate/Extra Last Encore season 2 release date could fall sometime in 2021. We’re keeping our ears open for news on Season 2 of Fate/Extra Last Encore, and we’ll update this section as soon as we hear something reliable.

Fate/Extra Last Encore Plot:

Like many anime shows, Fate/Extra Last Encore is set in a virtual game world and follows a protagonist who strives to beat the game.

In this case, the protagonist is a young man called Hakuno Kishinami, who wakes up in a pool of blood in a strange virtual world, and has no memory of his past or how he got there. Soon, however, Hakuno realizes that he is trapped in a technological hell, and will have to fight 127 others if he wants to survive.

Forced to fight for survival in a war he does not understand, Hakuno, like the other contestants, is aided by an enigmatic and powerful “Servant” unique to him, and together the duo have to brave many dangers to survive. As the show progresses, Hakuno has to face both friends and foes in battle as he strives to acquire a mysterious object called the “Holy Grail”, which supposedly holds the crucial information on the origins of the virtual world and on Hakuno’s own past. By acquiring the Holy Grail, Hakuno seeks to find a way out of this technological hell, and find answers to how he ended up there in the first place.

Fate/Extra Last Encore Characters:

Fate/Extra Last Encore has dozens of characters, but there are only two main characters in the show. Below, we’ve provided you with brief descriptions on each of these characters.

[WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD]

Hakuno Kishinami: The main protagonist of the show, Hakuno finds himself in a strange virtual world with no memory of who he is or how he got there. Despondent and introverted, Hakuno is not very social and shuns social interactions in favour of solitude. Once the show starts, Hakuno is quickly introduced to his servant, Saber, and he becomes determined to remain Saber’s master regardless of what comes his way. Later in the show, when Hakuno discovers his true origins, he loses his motivation to fight and gets consumed by his feelings of self-loathing.

Saber: The other main character in the show, Saber is, well…a Saber-class Servant who gets chosen by Hakuno to fight in the war which is waging in the virtual world. Later, it is revealed that Saber’s real name is Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, and that she used to be the fifth Roman Emperor. Known as a tyrant during her days as a ruler, many regarded Saber as the equivalent to the devil. Despite being a selectable Servant in the war, Saber refuses to appear for any master, but finally does so when she is impressed by Hakuno’s will to live and survive the war. Shortly after she appears in front of Hakuno and aids him in a fight, she explains the rules of the Holy Grail War and Hakuno’s role in it. As far as Saber’s personality is concerned, she is shown to be quite haughty, which is to be expected of a former Roman Emperor. Saber is also shown to be a perfectionist and has an obsession about being perfect at everything she does.
