Netflix hit the mark with its first-ever Japanese live-action drama series, ‘Followers,’ which premiered in February 2020. The J-drama follows the lives of an established photographer and an up-and-coming actor, as they pursue their respective careers, in a world dominated by social media likes and followers.
A creation of renowned photographer and filmmaker Mika Ninagawa, the show fared well among the audiences and critics who lauded the web series for its female-driven narrative and Mika Ninagawa’s trademark vibrant and colorful aesthetic. Many also likened it to the hit rom-com series ‘Sex and the City.’ Naturally, fans are wondering: Will there be a ‘Followers’ season 2? Well, we might be able to help you with that. Keep reading!

Followers Season 2 Plot: What can it be About?
“Why do you only listen to the people who know nothing about you? Why don’t you listen to the people in your life who love you?” Well, a lot of us have said this to someone in this age of social media dominance. Set in Tokyo, the show follows the parallel lives of two women.
Natsume – a socially conscious woman who aspires to become an actor. Her life changes when a famous photographer Limi shares her candid picture on social media, which ultimately goes viral. Natsume’s career metamorphoses from giving multiple auditions to attending red-carpet events. But she lets the success get to her head, and her world comes crashing down.
On the other end of the story is Limi – a fashion photographer (loosely based on Mika Ninagawa’s life) who has everything but a child of her own. By the end of season 1, with the help and support of their group of friends, Natsume manages to revive her career, and Limi finally gets pregnant.
Season 2 might showcase some more aspects of the lives of women in the cut-throat modern society that measures social standing through virtual/internet followers. Limi might try to balance her career, love life and motherhood, while we can expect to see how Natsume maintains her newfound stardom.
As we wait for an official update on ‘Followers’ season 2, check out the vibrant trailer of season 1!
