What is Formula 1: Drive To Survive about?
In this docu-series, Netflix subscribers are able to view the activities that happen inside the cockpits, the paddock, and everything else. As stated by Paul Martin from Box to Box Films, “Netflix was the perfect platform on which to tell the inside story of this incredible sport. F1 has long been a world of colorful characters and super-sized ego’s, thrills and drama, victory and tragedy but until now that world has been largely hidden and secretive from fans. Formula 1: Drive to Survive takes the viewers right into the heart of this world and shows what it is like to live, work and race within the world’s fastest sport.”
The first episode of season 1 introduces us to Daniel Ricciardo, the racing driver from Australia. He begins by introducing himself, “I’m Daniel Ricciardo and I’m a car mechanic”. The show then takes us to his home in Perth, where the team meets with his family and get to know about how his parents feel about the whole championship. We also get to see Gracie Ricciardo, Daniel’s mother, who expresses how it’s not so easy to live with the fear of her son featuring in top-speed racing competitions. The entire 35-minute run of the episode also introduces us to intense racing footage, which perfectly matches the action on-track sequences.
The primary highlights of season 2 include the Haas F1 boss, Guenther Steiner, the Pierre Gasly saga, and the rise of Charles Leclerc. It covers the 2019 F1 season when Lewis Hamilton grabbed his sixth drivers’ title and his Mercedes team won the sixth consecutive championship. The season also throws the limelight on the German Grand Prix, voted as Race Of The Decade.
