You can play these games like Monster Hunter on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, iPhone, Android, mac or even online.

9. God Eater 2 Rage Burst (2016)

God Eater 2 Rage Burst is an action RPG developed and published by Bandai Namco in the year 2016 to overall positive reviews. The game has been praised by critics for its intense gameplay and clear distinct world design. It allows you to take on the role of a God Eater, a member of an elite squad of warriors who are tasked with the duty of killing the forces of Aragami. You need to build your character and engage in combat with alien forces in order to collect resources that will help you on your fight later on. The character customization options are pretty diverse and allow you to build your character according to your wishes. The game is set three years after the events of God Eater Resurrection where a plague has broken out among the local population. Red spots are appearing on the skin of the people that they name it the black plague. As a member of the special unit that has been sent to investigate the event, you need to fight your way among hordes of enemies and uncover the truth behind the mysterious events.

8. Dark Souls III (2016)

Dark Souls is considered one of the most unforgiving gaming series of all time that really punishes the player for misplaying. The game is considered extremely hard even by the most hardcore of gamers, so this is not a game we recommend for the faint-hearted. Dark Souls III is the third installment in the Dark Souls series and is considered by many as one of the best conclusions to a long running trilogy. It concludes the story of the Dark Souls series and is a part of the original Souls, a series of games developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco in the year 2016 for the PS4, the Xbox One and the Windows PC systems.

Now that we have the basics out of the way, let’s talk about the actual game itself. It is an action RPG set from a third player perspective where you are tasked with fighting enemies that get harder in a progressive manner. It is set in a semi-open environment where the player continuously progresses through levels and then defeats the boss in order to progress to the next area. You encounter campfires during your way that act as save points and if you happen to die during your session – and let’s face it, that’s going to happen a lot – then you re-spawn at the latest campfire.

7. Far Cry Primal (2016)

Most of you are probably familiar with the Far Cry series, one of the most popular action adventure RPGs out there. The game has been known to create huge open worlds that stay mostly true to their original inspirations. These wild open worlds are inhabited by deadly monsters much similar to the Monster Hunter series, where you need to take on these wild creatures strategically and take them down. Far Cry Primal is set in a time when humans were on the verge of evolving into beings of culture or more precisely, the Mesolithic Age.

Contrary to the original game series, the game does not contain any gun based combat but limits the player to prehistoric weapons such as spears, clubs and slings. There are various wild and ferocious beasts that are roaming the wide open world that you need to take down either in a single player setting or in a multiplayer co-op setting with your friends. The game also allows you to engage in combat with other tribes that are present within the game and you need to take over the settlements of the enemy tribes. Critics have praised the game for its gameplay mechanics, combat systems and a proper historic depiction of the prehistoric world. It was developed and published by Ubisoft in the year 2016 for the PS4, the Xbox One and the Windows PC systems.

6. Destiny 2 (2017)

This one’s for the multiplayer fans out there who like competing against other player online in a competitive environment. Destiny 2 pits you in an online environment that is ‘shared’ among all the players online. You take the role of a savior of Earth as the last vestiges of civilization is at risk from unknown alien creatures and you need to pick up missions from the main hub and complete them in a co-op environment with teammates. The range of missions that you can pick up is sort of repetitive; however the gameplay is extremely varied as you can pick classes for your character.

There are also strikes and raids that you can take part, which are elaborate co-op missions that require extreme coordination between the players playing the event as the enemies are much harder than normal campaign missions. Raids are missions that require 3 players and raids take part in an environment involving 8 players and because of that, missions provide better loot to the players and also challenge the player at a greater level. The game has received overall positive review from its critics and it has been revered for its online gameplay matchmaking options that is a huge upgrade from its predecessor. The game has been developed by Bungie and published by Activision in the year 2017 for the Microsoft Windows PC, the Xbox One and the PS4 systems.

5. The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt (2015)

The Witcher is an open world fantasy role playing video game developed and published by CD Projekt Red based on the novel of the same name. The Wild Hunt is the third standalone installment in the story and follows the story of Geralt of Rivia, one of the last remaining Witchers in the land. The game is set in a fictional world where deadly monsters dwell the lands and as the wither of the land, you are required to hunt down these creatures. Witchers are bounty hunters who take down these deadly monsters through using magical powers that you can craft using resources gathered from the game. The world design is one of the best that we have seen in the recent years and we highly recommend this game to people who liked the wide open world aspect of Monster Hunter World. 4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017)

The Legend of Zelda is one of the more definitive names in this list and most of you browsing this will probably be able to connect with the series in one way or the other. This is one title that has single-handedly changed the face of gaming in the 80s and 90s and now the game has managed to win the hearts of gamers worldwide through its latest installment in the series, The Breath of the Wild. Nintendo took a break from releasing regular updates for the game and redesigned the whole game for modern consoles and we must admit that the experience is really memorable. It takes place in wide open world where you are able to traverse the game according to your wishes and all the missions within the game can be completed in a non linear fashion.

The game also rewards the player for exploring the world and also nudges the player to do so. The puzzles and gameplay in the game is also relevant to your character and you are able to customize your characters according to your wish. 3. Horizon Zero Dawn (2017)

Horizon Zero Dawn allows you to explore a lush post-apocalyptic world that is inhabited by towering mechs. The storyline for the game is intense and beautifully crafted, allowing the player to delve into this cross cultural experience. The story is set in a time when the whole of the educated human race has been wiped out but the creations of the race have managed to survive. A whole new generation of humans has emerged after years of extinction through an elaborate program but the new generation of humans is unaware of the achievements or the intelligence of their past race. They have mistaken the tall towering structures and the roaming mechs for just another wonder of nature and have started worshipping the same.

You follow the footsteps of Aloy, an outcast and the main protagonist for the story who becomes somewhat ”aware” of the mechanical constructs and the AI behind it accidentally while exploring a cavern. She finds a device that teaches her all about the achievements and blunders of their past generation and she travels throughout the land in order to learn more about the events that wiped out the entire population of Earth. The world design is top notch and you will need to learn about the specifics of each monster and their relative weak points in order to take them down very similar to the Monster Hunter series. During the later stages of the game, you will also be able to tame some of these creatures and use them as mechanical mounts and the experience of exploring wide open areas on fast wolf like mounts is extremely satisfying.
