‘Gentefied’ found a place in audience’s hearts soon after its premiere. The show is about the long-standing issue of Gentrification and tells the story of a Mexican-American family in Boyle Heights.

The show has received critical acclaim for using a universally identified subject and blending it with a sweet family story, comprising relatable and likable characters. It also touches upon various themes like internalized and cultural racism, LGBTQ representation, and, of course, Gentrification. In case you’re wondering: will there be a ‘Gentefied’ season 2? We have got you covered. Here are all the details you need to know.

Gentefied Season 2 Release Date

‘Gentefied’ season 1 premiered on February 21, 2020, on Netflix. It consists of 10 episodes of 30 minutes each.

Following the success of the show, the changes of renewal are quite bright. It will be a shame if Netflix pulls the plug on it. Also, the show leaves several loose ends which needs to be tied up in another season. Overall, there is still a lot of room for the makers to continue the story of Mama Fina’s saviors.

If everything works out and it does get renewed, we expect ‘Gentefied’ season 2 to release sometime in February 2021, on Netflix. Just like its previous season, season 2 might consist of ten half-hour episodes.

Gentefied Season 2 Cast: Who can be in it?

Season 2, if and when it releases, will most likely see the return of almost all the main cast members. Karrie Martin as the happily queer artist, Ana Morales. Joining Karrie, is Joseph Julian Soria as Ana’s goofy cousin Erik should return. Carlos Santos as the chef cousin, Christian, while Joaquín Cosio is the head of their family, Grandpa Pop will most certainly also come back.

The other cast members who we might see again are Julissa Calderon as Ana’s partner Yessika Flores, Annie Gonzalez as Erik’s partner Lidia Solis, Laura Patalano as Beatriz, Rafael Sigler as Pancho Solis, Bianca Melgar as Nayeli Morales, Felipe Esparza as Crazy Dave, among others. Season 2 might also see some new additions.

Gentefied Season 2 Plot: What can it be About?

Throughout season 1, we see Ana, Chris, and Erik leaving no stone unturned to save Pop’s taqueria Mama Fina from being shut down. Towards the end, Ana is excelling at art, Erik becomes a father, and Chris’ dad agrees to finance his education. Just when they thought things are settling down, Pop gets arrested for failing to pay fine for an old charge of vandalism. And everything goes back to square one, as Ana learns that Pop’s place has been unfairly sold to someone else.

In season 2, the three cousins might have to take some tough calls regarding the future of Mama Fina and their own lives. They will probably have to strive again to save Pop’s livelihood Mama Fina, the only place that makes him feel the presence of his dead wife. Chris is so close to getting into the culinary arts school in Paris, and Erik wants to start a new life at Stanford, with Lidia and their new-born daughter. But will it sustain?

After Ana learns about the problem looming over Mama Fina, she might do everything in her power to save it, but will it be enough? Which means in season 2, Chris or Erik, or both will stay back at Boyle Heights and assist Ana, in reclaiming the possession of Mama Fina and saving their beloved Pop from the legal system. This might create friction between Erik and Lidia, and Chris might have to give up on his life-long dream.
