Greyhound: Everything We Know

War movies aren’t just about patriotism or big, explosive bangs. They are the quintessential hero’s journey kind of story that also focus on the characters’ personal paths and quest to rise to the occasion. Many times, this involves character development in the form of battling personal conflicts that need to be overcome to be worthy of fighting on behalf of one’s nation. Moreover, they prove to be excellent detours down the lane of history. Important events are stressed and their significance is highlighted and portrayed in a manner that is hard to conceive for the general public several decades afterwards. ‘Greyhound’ is one such movie that fits into the above mould.

The movie is an adaptation of C.S. Forester’s novel, ‘The Good Shepherd.’ The English novelist was a celebrated author in the early 20th century whose name on a book’s front cover was enough to ensure its success. He is known for writing stories about naval warfare and ‘The Good Shepherd’ is no different. Moreover, we can expect a riveting depiction of the tension of the war-laden period as Forester lived through that. No amount of research can match the experience of an actual person living through certain circumstances.

The story is set during the Second World War. Despite the war having occurred more than half a century ago, its popularity in movies and works of fiction hasn’t died down. Perhaps, that is because it was the last large-scale conflict involving the Western world or because the Nazis prove to be the perfect skeletons for antagonists. Regardless of that, any movie about the Second World War surely garners some interest. Plus, the fact that it is based on a novel by a popular author only serves to add to its promise. The sections below highlight the movie’s plot, its cast and crew and its release date.
