Will There be More of Guardians of the Glades?

The relationship between snakes and humans has been tainted ever since Eve took a slice of that fated apple after being tempted by a talking serpent. Snakes may be beautiful, mysterious, and grand creatures; but for most of us, they are scary, slithering, sinister beasts. And among the many species of this predator, a fearsome snake that’s terrorizing Florida is the Burmese python — an aborigine from South Asia. This article from The New York Times describes it as “the snake that’s eating Florida.”

This influx of this foreign invader in the Everglades National Park was primarily because of Hurricane Andrew in 1992. But they have been spotted in this region ever since the 1980s. Until now, the predator has feasted on around 90% of certain species of mammals and birds in specific parts of the subtropical Everglades. Their number may have reached tens of thousands as per the latest estimates.

With a mission to save the Glades for complete elimination, snake hunter Dusty “The Wildman” Crum has decided to hunt down these notorious predators. His hunting quest has been captured and turned into a TV show called ‘Guardian of the Glades.’ The nature documentary series airs on Discovery.

After a successful first season run, the docu-series received a second-season order from the channel, which was also well-received by fans. Read on to know all about ‘Guardians of the Glades’ season 3.

Guardians of the Glades Season 3 Release Date: When will it premiere?

‘Guardians of the Glades’ season 2 premiered on January 7, 2020, on Discovery Channel and DiscoveryGO. After airing for six episodes, it ended on February 11, 2020.

Discovery Channel has been delivering the highest quality non-fiction content since its launch. Almost all its programs are not only interesting but also informational to watch. ‘Guardians of the Glades’ was just another addition to its exhaustive list.

Hence, noting the interesting premise of its concept, we were hopeful that the show would be renewed for another season after its inaugural launch. And that did happen. Even the second season garnered positive reviews and the show holds a good 7+/10 rating on IMDB. So we are positive that it will be recommissioned for yet another season. If things fall in place, ‘Guardians of the Glades’ season 3 should premiere sometime in June 2020.

Guardians of the Glades Cast: Who is in it?

Dusty Crum leads his crew in this thrill-packed adventure series. He is already recognized for capturing some of the largest snakes inhabiting the swampy wetlands of Everglades. In his mission, he is accompanied by a team of gutsy environmentalists, including Brittany; swamp expert, Jay; wildlife specialist, Gary; survivalist, Tom; and Florida’s number one python-hunting Beagle, Riley.

When the series is renewed for season 3, we expect the whole crew to be making a comeback with a more focused mission to save the Everglades from its giant predators.

What is Guardians of the Glades about?

‘Guardians of the Glades’ documents how Crum and his team tackle the Burmese python encroachment in the Everglades. These swamps, located on the southernmost tip of Florida, were once teeming with biodiversity. However, after Hurricane Andrew, many Burmese pythons held as captives in a breeding facility escaped and took shelter in the marshlands.

They quickly multiplied after breeding and feeding on the variety of fauna inhabiting these mangroves, such as rabbits, raccoons, bobcats, birds, and deers. The giant constrictors, which can reach up to several feet in length, even attempt to devour alligators. As a result, this has led to a severe fall in the population of the native wildlife, causing the ecosystem to become totally fragile.

In order to combat the dwindling populace of animals in the Glades, the state launched a python bounty program in a desperate bid to protect this biodome. Now, Dusty Crum, along with his team of expert fellow snake hunters, experts, and survivalists, takes matters into his own hands and aims to stop these deadly creatures from further destroying the ecosystem. And this task is packed with extreme dangers lurking underneath, with slithering giants camouflaged within the dense foliage and murky waters.

It is true that pythons are non-venomous, but they are extremely strong and their powerful jaws have a death-like grip. Moreover, they are huge, growing up to 18 feet in length. Therefore, Crum and his crew, who know the risks, have to administer the greatest caution in every step they take into these wet swamps. Moreover, Crum chooses to go barefoot during his missions through the Everglades. Because, according to him, “If you have a rubber sole between foot and Earth, you can’t absorb what nature is telling you” — as reported by Discovery.

In Season 2, the problem multiples because the pythons have doubled in size and quantity. As a result, Florida has increased the amount of bounty for hunters who bring in these disruptive animals. This means that Dusty needs to come up with more tactics and new technology to tackle the mammoth invaders. The hunt extends from the Florida Keys to Snake Bight Bay. When season 3 happens, we expect the crew to expand their quest further, reaching the farthest corners of Florida, which house these mammoth predators.

‘Guardians of the Glades’ is packed with adventure and several jaw-dropping moments. It also educates us about nature and showcases a concealed environmental war that’s threatening southern Florida. Giving us close-up shots of what happens when the hunters become the hunted, it brings to us multiple exciting wrestling struggles between man vs beasts. So, if you are a nature-lover who is addicted to wildlife documentaries, then this is another title to be added to your watch list.
