High Maintenance Season 4 Episode 2 Recap:
Titled ‘Trick’, the episode focuses on coordinating relationships, and the difficulties that might arise from the same. The episode starts off with Matthew, who has a “shoes-off” house. However, when The Guy goes to deliver weed, his dog, Fomo, soils the carpet. Luckily Matthew does not freak out too much, while The Guy gives him back some money because of Fomo’s behavior.
Matthew also ends up hiring an escort, whose name remains a secret. However, their date ends up being a lot more awkward than anticipated. Matthew doesn’t just crave sex but wants intimacy, to alleviate his loneliness. In the end, we also see the escort paying him back some amount of money.
We also meet Kym, whose job is to basically ensure that actors, actresses, and everyone else is comfortable with the sex scenes being shot, in film, and perhaps television shows as well. She meets Evan, and the two hit it off. However, Kym, who is very sensitive to other people’s boundaries, is thrown off, when she learns that Evan is asexual. In fact, his asexuality prevents him from holding hands or hugging.
However, he is not aromantic, and the two have a nice time. In fact, Evan even makes a gesture of stepping out of his comfort zone to hold Kym’s hand and kiss it. This is when we notice that they are being served by the escort that Matthew had hired, tying these tales together. In yet another powerful episode, ‘High Maintenance’ manages to create an ethical tension with Evan’s asexuality. Undoubtedly, the upcoming episodes will be just as good.
