‘Hospital Playlist’, tvN’s superhit medical drama, is a heartwarming story about five doctors, who coincidentally end up at the same workplace after having been friends for 20 years. Realistic, relatable, and humane, it brought with it a refreshing twist. Undoubtedly, the first season opened to rave reviews, topping the rating charts both in Korea and globally. Now that season 1 has reached its end, here’s all you need to know about the next season.
Hospital Playlist Season 2 Release Date
Although the production team has not yet renewed the show for its second edition, it is confirmed that season 2 is underway. Before the season 1 finale, its stars already expressed their excitement for the potential new installment. Jo Jung Suk (Ik Joon) said: “Thank you to all the viewers who were with us every Thursday night. Please don’t forget ‘Hospital Playlist’ season two, and please ‘Pick Me’ again.” Yoo Yeon Seok (Jung Won) added, “Although it’s sad that season one is ending, I’m excited and looking forward to meeting again soon through season two.”
Sources have also revealed that producing director Shin Won Ho had planned season 1, keeping multiple seasons in mind. So, yes, it is only a matter of time before tvN makes an official announcement. If things move according to plan, we can expect ‘Hospital Playlist’ season 2 to release sometime in 2021.
Hospital Playlist Season 2 Cast: Who Can be in it?
The entire lead cast from season 1 has been confirmed to make their comebacks in the next installment. They are the five friends from medical school, played by Jo Jung-suk as Lee Ik-Joon, Yoo Yeon-Seok as Ahn Jung-won, Jung Kyung-ho as Kim Joon-wan, Kim Dae-Myung as Yang Seok-Hyung, and Jeon Mi-do as Chae Song-Hwa. The first season also introduced us to several other stars who appear in recurring roles. Since their characters are important to carry the story forward, we expect most of them to feature in season 2 as well.
Hospital Playlist Season 2 Plot: What Can it be About?
The two-hour finale of season 1 gave some much-needed answers. While Jung-won decides that he no longer wants to be a priest, he also accepts his feelings for Gyeo-wool. Ik-jun visits Song-Hwa and confesses that he loves her. When the latter appears a bit surprised, he asks her to take her time and answer him once he returns from Spain. Well, this is an important arc that will be explored in season 2. Again, Jun-wan is dating Ik-jun’s sister Ik-sun. Ik-jun is still in the dark about this secret romance and we need to wait to see how he reacts once he finds out.
Meanwhile, Ik-sun is in London and Jun-wan is facing his own difficulties in pursuing a long-distance relationship. Will they be able to stay together? Yet another question that needs answers. Seok-Hyeon gets a phone call from someone called Yoo Sin-Hye. The finale does not reveal who this person is either. As you can see, there are a lot of unresolved storylines, which need to reach their conclusions in the upcoming outing.
