How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast) Season 1: Premiere Date, Cast, Update, Recap

Have you ever tried Google searching ‘How to sell drugs online?’ It’s obvious that you would come across several tutorials (inclusive with a statutory warning – ‘for educational purposes only’), which guide you through this illegal process. Of course, it’s ILLEGAL, and it’s definitely not recommended to foray further into this tempting, quick-cash generating venture. But, have you noticed that an Internet search with these same words comes accompanied with multiple results about yet another title, via which you can embark on an addictive, virtual, and high trip — that too with zero risks? Yes, there are no negative side effects.

Here, we are talking about Netflix’s third German original series, namely, ‘How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)’ aka ‘HTSDOF’, which is branded as a teenage version of ‘Breaking Bad‘. The story is inspired by real-life incidents and it’s German. We think these are reasons enough to compel you to binge-watch all of its six episodes, which revolve around how one 19-year-old teen started the Amazon of drugs — selling everything from ecstasy and marijuana to MDMA. If this doesn’t give you a high, we don’t know what will!

Created by Philipp Käßbohrer and Matthias Murmann, written by Käßbohrer, Sebastian Colley, and Stefan Titze, and directed by Lars Montag and Arne Feldhusen, HTSDOF premieres on Netflix on May 31, 2019.

How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast) Plot: What is it about?

As we already mentioned, HTSDOF is based on the life of a German youngster who owned and ran an online drug empire from his bedroom. He was captured is 2015 and was sentenced to seven years in prison. In fact, he made a whopping amount of 4.4 million euros worth of Bitcoin via his online store named Shiny Flakes, within a mere span of more than a year. It’s unbelievable that when we speak of drug mafias, the first names that pop up in our minds are the hotshots like Pablo Escobar and Joaquín Guzmán Loera. But then, there was this weird young guy who was making such a huge impact in the European drug business.

In the adapted version, we meet Moritz, a 17-year-old high school teen, who sets up the biggest online drug store in Europe, with the help of his wheelchair-ridden buddy Lenny. But what inspires him to get on with this ‘great’ idea? Well, his girlfriend, who is a pill-popping party animal, dumps him for the school drug dealer. Now, how do you get her back? For our protagonist, the answer is simple – sell better drugs. So he begins by selling ecstasy on the darknet, his ex’s favorite, which soon progresses to include pills, powders, and liquids of all varieties. However, when the business expands, it comes with its repercussions, including threats and competition from other sellers and of course, the constant fear of getting caught.

HTSGOF adopts the same themes as depicted in other teen-centered Netflix originals such as ‘The End of the F *** World‘ and  ‘Sex Education‘. Its fast pace, action, and drama simply make it so engaging that you can never get bored. Moreover, it serves as a mirror to the challenges faced by the current adolescents of Gen Z. But it’s also meant for a much wider audience. As explained by the creators in their interview with Variety, “Nowadays, parents are more afraid that their kids will find porn or violence on the Internet. We’re showing them that in reality, everything is much worse and more dangerous than that. Nowadays, young people can do things on the Internet that destroy their whole lives: like becoming a drug lord. Or even worse, a YouTube star.”

Additionally, HTSDOF teaches us to empathize with the current youth for whom everything is so much more difficult. In this world of cut-throat competition, it’s challenging for them to find something that they excel at. And even if they do, there are a thousand others who surpass them. This is when chances are that they come across a skill that they are expert in. But things take a worse turn when that skill is ‘illegal’. HTSDOF is also a story about adolescent friendships and fragile relationships. In a nutshell, it packs so many elements into one, making it a definite watch both for adults as well as teenagers.

How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast) Season 1 Release Date: When will it premiere?

All six 30-minute episodes of HTSDOF season 1 premiere on Netflix on May 31st. This is Netflix’s third German original after ‘Perfume‘ and ‘Dark‘. And we know how spectacular both these shows are. Although our show under preview is more of a coming-of-age drama, we are sure it shall stick to our heightened levels of expectations, especially when it comes to European series. Therefore, even if there’s no confirmation about a renewal yet, we hope to get one soon (seeing the trend of its predecessors). So, if a sequel does happen, ‘How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)’ season 2 should premiere sometime in May 2020. This is our best guess after witnessing the release schedule of similar programs on Netflix.
