Howard Michael Mandel is a comedian, actor, and television host. Hailing from Canada, he was born on November 29, 1955, in Toronto. He started performing as a stand-up comedian when he was in high school.  After he appeared at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles, he became popular, which led him to perform a regular gig. Mandel gained National Attention with the show St. Elsewhere. He also made several movie appearances at the time which include “Gremlins,” “Gremlins 2: The New Batch”, “A Fine Mess,” “Walk Like A Man,” and “Maurice to name a few. Mandel is also responsible for creating the animated series “Bobby’s World,” which ran for six years and also won an Emmy nomination.

Mandel worked in different areas ranging from movies to music videos and television shows. In 1995 he appeared in the comedy series “Howie Mandel’s Sunny Skies.” In 1995, apart from appearing in the TV series “The Amazing Live Sea Monkeys,” he was also featured in the music video “Summer’s Comin” by Clint Black.

His movie projects include appearances in “Apocalypse III: Tribulation” and “Hansel & Gretel.” He made regular appearances on the show “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” He was also included in the list of the 100 greatest stand-up comedians of all time released by Comedy Central.

Aside from hosting the US version of the show “Deal or No Deal,” he was also the host of the Canadian version of the show in 2007. In 2010 he replaced David Hasselhoff as one of the judges on the NBC’s singing reality show “America’s Got Talent’. He appeared in the 38th season of Sesame Streets in 2007. It was in the same year that Mandel was brought on board as the spokesperson for Internet retailer buy.com. There is a section called “What’s Shakin’?” with Mandel where he is frequently featured. His reality show Howie Do It first debuted on January 9, 2009, on NBC.

Mandel has made several appearances in the hidden camera segments on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. His credits also include having appeared in numerous television commercials for Boston Pizza in the capacity of their spokesperson. It was in April 2004 that he became part of Comedy Central’s list of the 100 greatest stand-up comedians of all time standing at number 82. He is counted among the few game hosts who have host both the domestic as well as the international versions of a game show. Others on the list are Weakest Link’s Anne Robinson, The Chairs John McEnroe, Pyramids Donny Osmond, The Singing Bees Joey Fatone, and Minute to Win Its Darren McMullen. Along with hosts Alex Trebek, Jim Perry, and Geoff Edwards, Mandel has earned a spot in the category of game show hosts who have been responsible for the simultaneously hosting a game show in Canada and the United States.
