Generally, whenever a documentary or a podcast comes out, it turns out that the audience has already heard about the case. Such cases generally receive extensive media coverage, and with the Internet, it becomes easier to track down the event and find out what really happened. However, with ‘Interrogation’, there is a room for surprise as you most probably won’t be familiar with the case. Created by Anders Weidemann and John Mankiewicz, it follows the story of a man who is arrested for murdering his mother.
As per CBS Access, “the series gives viewers a unique opportunity to witness the day of the crime and then follow the evidence like a cold case detective, abandon the linear narrative, and determine their own investigative path by watching the episodes leading up to the finale in any order.”
The first season of the show received a mixed response. Now, the question arises: will there be a ‘Interrogation’ season 2? We will delve into that question, but first let’s quickly look into the details of the series.
Interrogation Cast: Who is in it?
The cast of ‘Interrogation’ is led by Peter Sarsgaard (‘Garden State’, ‘Blue Jasmine’) who plays the role of Detective David Russell. Kyle Gallner (‘Veronica Mars’) plays the role of Eric Fisher, the young man who is convicted of killing his mother but maintains his innocence. The supporting cast includes David Strathairn (‘Good Night, and Good Luck’, ‘Temple Grandin’) as Henry Fisher, Kodi Smit-McPhee (‘The Road’, ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’) as a teenager named Chris Keller who becomes Eric’s friend, and Vincent D’Onofrio plays Sgt. Ian Lynch, an Internal Affairs officer.
Interrogation Plot: What’s it about?
‘Interrogation’ follows the true story of an investigation that spanned more than 30 years. The case started with the brutal murder of a woman, for which her son was found guilty. However, the young man continued to fight for his innocence. Over the years, the case received a look-over from a number of people, which allowed the investigation to remain active, with suspects and witnesses interrogated over a long period of time.
The show uses the interrogations directly from the real police case files. Each episode focuses on the interrogation of one person, which adds another piece to the puzzle. By the final episode, the entire picture takes shape and we find out what exactly happened the night of the murder.
In order to keep things interesting, CBS All Access did not reveal the real case that inspired the show. Except for the locals, the case would be an entirely new thing for the viewers because when the crime took place, it did not receive wide media coverage.
Interrogation Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?
‘Interrogation’ Season 1 is set to premiere on February 6, 2020 at on CBS All Access. The ten-episode series experiments with the storytelling by allowing the viewers to have more control over how they want to see it.
As far as the next season goes, here’s what we know. Even though you can argue that the show is innovative, one can’t deny that it is also gimmicky. While the show’s format definitely allows for more similar series to be made in the future, only the viewership numbers will decide whether it gets renewed or not. It’s unlikely to be renewed in our opinion. If the show does somehow get renewed, expect ‘Interrogation’ Season 2 to release sometime in 2021.
