Iyanla Vanzant was named Rhonda Eva Harris at birth, she was born on September 13, 1953, in the back of a taxi in Brooklyn, New York, the U.S. she was born to parents Sarah Jefferson who was a railroad car maid and her father Horace Harris, who was a criminal. Her mother passed away as a result of breast cancer when Vanzant was just four years old and then she grew up at some paternal relatives house and was raped at the age of 9 by her uncle. She studied at the Medgar Evers College and Virginia Union University and received Juris Doctor degree from the City University of New York School of Law.She was physically abused by her husband Yemi, and she left him in 1980 and took all her three children with her.
She is an inspirational speaker, lawyer, spiritual teacher, author, TV personality and is most known for her appearances on “The Oprah Winfrey Show”.
