How did John Legend earn his money and wealth?

John Legend was born in 28th December 1978 at Springfield, Ohio, USA.  Legend started performing in the church choir at the age of four and started playing piano at the age of seven. His alma mater is the University of Pennsylvania where he was the president and music director of a co-ed jazz and pop, a cappella group named Counterparts. While in college, he was hired by Lauryn Hill to play piano on “Everything Is Everything”, a song from her album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

In 1999, John Legend graduated from college and started working as a management consultant from the  Boston Consulting Group, subsequently producing, writing and recording his own music. He released John Legend demo in 2000 and Live at Jimmy’s Uptown in 2001, independently. In 2004, Legend released his debut studio album, Get Lifted, with Good Music. The album earned him the 2006 Grammy Award for Best R&B Album and sold over 3 million copies worldwide. Legend was featured on several records the following years and also worked with Michael Jackson on a future album for which he had written one song.

Legend’s second album, Once Again, released in 2006. It was a commercial success reaching number 3 on Billboard 200. The album was certified platinum by RIAA. In 2008, Legend sang in a video called “Yes We Can” for Barack Obama, produced by Will.I.Am. In the same year, he got a singing-only role in the movie Soul Men.In 2008, Legend released “Green Light”, dance-pop-influenced uptempo single, which featured rapper Andre 3000. This marked the shift in musical style for Legend. His third studio album Evolver (2008) was released following “Green Light”. Legend performed in a documentary feature film, The People Speak, in 2009 which was based on historian Howard Zinn’s, A People’s History of the United States.

Legend in collaboration with the Roots released the album Wake Up! In 2010.  He bagged Best R&B Song for “Shine” and the Roots won Grammy Awards  for Best R&B Album. In 2011, Legend toured as guest for British soul band Sade. In the following year he was a judge at reality television singing competition show, Duets on ABC along with Kelly Clarkson, Robin Thicke and Jennifer Nettles.In the year 2013, Legend released his fourth studio album Love in Future. The album debut number four on Billboard 200 and was nominated for Best R&B Album at the 2014 Grammy Awards. “All of Me”, the third single from the album became one of the best-selling digital singles of the time.

The following year, Legend pairing with the rapper Common, wrote the song “Glory” for the film Selma. The song bagged the Golden Globe Award for the Best Original Song. Legend appeared in Meghan Trainor’s “Like I’m Gonna Lose You”  from her debut studio album. He gave guest vocals for “Run Run Run” by Kelly Clarkson for her album Piece by piece. In 2016, Legend released his fifth album Darkness and Light. It’s first single “ Love Me Now” featured Chance the Rapper and Miguel. He performed a duet with Ariana Grande for the title track of 2017 film Beauty and Beast. The song was a remake of 1991 original version sung by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson. He was featured in a cameo in the 2016 musical La La Land.
