Jon Jones, real name Jonathan Dwight Jones, was born on 19 July 1987 in New York, US to Arthur Jones Jr. Jones and Camille Jones. He has two siblings. Jon’s elder brother, named Arthur Jones III is a retired American football defensive end who played for NBA teams like Indianapolis Colts, Baltimore Ravens as well as Washington Redskins whereas his younger brother named Chandler Jones also presently serves as an American footballer defensive end who for the NBA team Arizona Cardinals. Jon’s mother died in the year 2017 after battling against diabetes. Since his childhood, Jon had an interest in wrestling and dropped out of his Center Community College in order to pursue a full-time career in MMA.

Jon Jones is not only an American mixed martial artist but is also a two-time UFC Lightweight Champion. He made his professional debut in 2008 in an FFP: Untamed 20 catchweight  (210 lbs) bout against the player Brad Bernard and went on to win in the 1st round through technical knockout. He later played three matches against Anthony Pina, Parker Porter, and Ryan and went on to win all the three. He fought his 6th professional match in July 2008 against Moyses Gabin, whom he defeated through a technical knockout in round 2.

Jon joined UFC and played his first match against Brazilian fighter named Andre Gusmao at the UFC 87 in August 2008. He won the match through a unanimous decision. In January 2009, he played a match against Stephan Bonnar in which he won again due to a unanimous decision. In 2009, Jon fought against Jake O’Brien at the UFC 100 and went on to win it which helped him secure 4 other fights with the UFC.

In December 2009, he fought a match with fellow American, Matt Hamill. Jon used downward elbow strikes repeatedly on Hamill which were illegal in the sport and sadly resulted in Hamill suffering from a dislocated shoulder. Hence, Jon was disqualified and later on, the match turned out to be the first match Jon lost in his career. In the year 2010, Jon played 2 fights against Brandon Vera as well as Vladimir Matyushenko, both of which he won.

During Jon’s first reign as the UFC Lightweight Champion, he defeated some of the best fights in this weight class. He won a match against Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans, Chael Sonnen and Vitor Belfort. In 2014, Jon fought against Glover Teixeira at UFC 172 and ultimately won due to a unanimous decision. In the year 2017, after a gap of three years due to legal issues, he played a match against Daniel Cormier and ended the fight by defeating Cormier and regained the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship belt.
