He became a politician in 2018 and launched his party named Makkal Needhi Maiam (lit. People’s Justice Centre). He has also received the Living Legend Award from FICCI in 2007, Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan Award in 2006 for Excellence in Indian Cinema at the inaugural Vijay Awards.
