How did Kanye West earn his money and wealth?

Kanye West was born in Atlanta, Georgia (US) on June 8, 1977. He is a multi-faceted personality who is renowned all over the world in his capacity chiefly as a rapper, singer and songwriter. He also dabbles in record producing and fashion designing. For a sizeable population of the world he is also well known as the better half of Kim Kardashian. As a child West had a formal education and is an alumnus of American Academy of Art and it was not until he turned 20 that he chose music over academics. So it makes sense that his debut album was called ‘The College Dropout’ (2004). He began his much-publicized career as a producer for Roc-A-Fella records at the turn of the century but soon realized that he has something more in him to offer to the world and thus began his journey towards becoming the Kanye West that the world knows today.

His debut album ‘The College Dropout’ got leaked before its release but he turned the misfortune around its head by using the opportunity to better his product prior to its release in 2004. It proudly occupied the second spot on Billboard 200. For his second album ‘Late Registration’ (2005) he collaborated with film composer Jon Brion. Despite their different musical styles the album worked big time and became the most successful album of the fall season selling over 2.3 million units in the US.

Kanye West was inspired a lot by U2 in the creation of his third album ‘Graduation’ (2007). Upon its release it faced serious competition from 50 Cent’s ‘Curtis’ but West won the CD sales battle effortlessly as his album sold 957,000 copies in the first week. The track ‘Stronger’ became the third number one single of his career. Personal tragedies instigated him to lend a sombre tone to his fourth album ‘808s & Heartbreak’ (2008). He announced the album at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards with an onstage performance of the lead single ‘Love Lockdown’. It was released on the Thanksgiving weekend that year and became a watershed moment in the evolution of hip-hop music.

West’s fifth album ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ (2010) was different from his earlier works as it was loud and extreme in its sentiment. In spite of achieving universal acclaim it missed out on the ‘Album of the Year’ nomination at the 54th Grammy Awards. He also collaborated with Jay-Z in an album titled ‘Watch the Throne’. His trademark minimalist approach to music was once again noticed in his sixth album ‘Yeezus’. The critical success of the album made sure that he stayed at the top of his game.

‘The Life of Pablo’, West’s seventh album was initially titled ‘SWISH’ and ‘Waves’. It was premiered on Madison Square Garden and officially launched on Tidal, the streaming service. Huge anticipation combined with groundbreaking music made sure that the album went platinum. Apart from a booming musical career Kanye West has also appeared in high-profile TV shows like ‘Entourage’, ‘The Cleveland Show’ and ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’. He also manages a fashion line ‘Adidas Yeezy’.
