How did Katy Perry earn her money and wealth?
Born to Pentecostal pastors Maurice Keith Hudson and Mary Christine in Santa Barbara California on 25th of October in 1984 as Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, Katy Perry grew up listening to gospel music throughout her childhood. She got introduced to the world of secular music through her friends from whom she sneaked music CDs. She started taking vocal lessons at the age of 9 and joined the church choir. She continued her singing in the church until her age of 17. After graduating from High school, Katy Perry went on to join Music Academy of the west in Santa Barbara to learn Italian opera. There she was discovered and polished by Steve Thomas and Jennifer Knapp who took her to Nashville and finetuned her writing and singing skills.
Her first album was a gospel record titled “Katy Hudson” under the production of Red Hill Records and was released on the 6th of March in 2001 following which she toured as a part of Phil Joel’s “Strangely Normal Tour”. Katy Perry then worked with Dr. Luke of Capitol Records and put together her first album “One of the Boys”. Single “I kissed a Girl” from the album was premiered at the WRVW station and received wide appreciation. It very soon hopped atop the list of Billboard Hot 100. Later after much accusations from the LGBT and religious communities, “One of the Boys” was released and soon found its way up the Billboard Hot 200’s #1 spot. The album sold an estimate of 7 million copies worldwide.
Post her grand success at the Brit awards and 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards, she embarked on a world tour under the title “Hello Katy Tour” in 2009. She also judged on the panel of super hit singer hunt American Idol. In 2010, Perry released the single “California Gurls” featuring Snoop Dog. It was a song from her upcoming album “Teenage Dream” and needless to mention topped the charts. Following that the album was released and it was #1 at the Billboard Top 200 and sold over 6 million copies worldwide. Further other singles from the album hit the shelves one after the other and swept the music market by a thunderstorm. Perry set out on her second tour in the February of 2011 and titled it “California Dreams Tour”. Globally, the tour was estimated to gross $59.5 million and won her Best Live Act award at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
Katy Perry made her big screen debut with “The Smurfs” in 2011. The film turned out to be a massive hit worldwide. The following year, Perry’s autobiographical documentation “Katy Perry: Part of Me” hit the big screens all over the world and grossed $32.7 million. In 2013, her biggest ever hit “Prism” was released following which she set out on her next tour “The Prismatic World Tour”. Apart from her hit albums, Katy Perry also has tried her hand at business and has her own fragrance brand. She also has endorsement contracts with few of the big names like Wal-Mart, Adidas, and Pepsi.
