How did Kevin Garnett earn his money and wealth?

Kevin Maurice Garnett is a former American basketball player. Born on 19, 1976, in Greenville, South Carolina, Kevin played 21 seasons in the National Basketball Association. His mother was Shirley Garnett, and Kevin was her second child. She remained unmarried to his father whom she separated from soon after giving birth to Kevin. He grew up around Ernest Irby who was his stepfather with whom he could never strike an amicable relationship.

Garnett first encountered basketball at his school, the Hillcrest Middle School and fell in love with it immediately. He didn’t play basketball until he was in Mauldin High School in Mauldin, South Carolina. Here, he joined the basketball team. He got into a fight between black and white students and was arrested along with three other students for second-degree lynching. Kevin wasn’t directly involved in the fight but faced the consequences nonetheless. Following this incident, he quit his school and moved to Farragut Career Academy in Chicago to pursue his senior year in high school.

Garnett became the first player ever to be drafted right after finishing high school since 1975. He was in the fifth overall pick in the 1995 NBA draft where he was picked by Minnesota Timberwolves. After playing for twelve seasons for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Garnett was traded to the Boston Celtics in 2007 where he played for them till 2013, after which he was again traded to the Brooklyn Nets. Garnett ended his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves when he was again traded after he signed a waiver of his no-trade clause.

Having played in the National Basketball Association for 21 seasons, most of them for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Garnett announced his retirement from professional basketball on September 23, 2016. His impressive stats include 717 career double-doubles in the regular season and 16 career triple-doubles also in the regular season, During his long career spanning over two decades, Garnett received many awards and recognition for his contribution to the sport. He also came to be selected as an NBA All-Star for fifteen years. In 2003 he was awarded “NBA All-Star Game MVP” and “NBA Most Valuable Player” in 2004. He was the NBA Champion in the year 2008. Garnett was also the part of the National team which won Olympic Gold in 2000.

His other awards include J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award. He was also ranked at number 30 in 2009 by the SLAM Magazine in the top 50 greatest players of all time.
